Diaz making 3.1 million with incentives..

I honestly don't mind overpaying him a little and keeping the optics that this is a top head coaching job and that the University is vested in him and the success of this program. It's the buyout and details Im more interested in knowing. Manny didnt really have any leverage, so if the buyout is big and we need to pay a huge amount if he fails, then that's one more in a long line of Blake James's **** poor contract negotiation decisions.

CMR is the man for only stealing $12 million when he could’ve stolen $28 million?

I guess it’s a matter of perspective.
So you don't consider an IPF (when it was clear we weren't getting one quickly), our first Coastal and ACCCG appearance, top 8 recruiting class, first 10 win season in close to 15 years, appearance on college game day and basically taking the CFB world by storm in 2017 worth 12 mil over the last 3 years?

don't waste your time.

CMR gave us the best 3 consecutive years we've had in 15 years. True fans know the deal.

Still slurping Bicht to try to look less the fool for his original hire, SMDH

What CMR did in 2017 was nothing more than NOT underachieve. Something he failed to do his other 2 years.

Don’t show me a coach who averages 4 losses per season, all to subpar competition, and tell me he did his job.

He didn’t.

CMR won the coastal and 10 games. Got us into the Orange Bowl. He also put 1M into the IPF. Had the games sold out. Miami may have paid him 12 of 28 M but Miami walked away with 3-5M from that 12M via donation and additional revenue. Saban may cost Bama 9M a year but Bama is raking in tens of millions from apparel, tickets, bowls, TV...

Point being: spend money wisely and the return on that investment will be good.

Too much for an unproven head coach who was desperate for the job. 2.5 million was more appropriate. Oh well, good for him.

You're too emotional. The gameday appearance and ND victory of showing what Hard Rock could be like was worth 12mil alone. Let alone he had the clout to make the IPF happen.

Don't you think it's time to move on?

I remember laughing at people on boards saying Richt should step down. I thought there was no chance in **** he would ever do that and especially so soon, we got lucky.

There were many of us saying for months that we thought he might. Not that he would, but that he might. The reaction was not exactly accepting of that possibility.

Not sure what is so earth shattering about this. $3.1 million per year puts Manny in the low 40's ranking-wise of highest paid coaches.

That is probably market for a promoted coordinator. Now if we can get James not to extend him during spring practice then we are making progress. If anybody isn't going anywhere for awhile even if he is successful, it's Diaz. The only message to send to recruits is we are winning and moving in the right direction.

the man walks the walk. he knew that he couldn't live up to his contract and that staying would hurt his school, his players, and (likely) his family, so he walked away instead of forcing the school to dump him and running with the money. you can criticize richt for a lot of things that held him back as a head coach, but his character and integrity are second to none. sadly that doesn't get you anywhere in modern college ball.

Still waiting to see all those "I'm sorry, I was wrong" posts from all the guys on here who were bashing his integrity, saying he was stealing from the school, said he would never walk away from all that cash, etc. just a couple of weeks ago.

Thats a good check! Very competitive but leaving it open for an extension if Diaz can string together a couple of 10 win season with some coastals!

NO MORE PREMATURE EXTENSIONS BLAKE!!!!

Problem was Richt wanted loyalty to him over everything. He hired his unqualified family member and staff members b/c he knew they would be loyal and never question his incompetence. Surrounded himself with yes men which lead to mistrust on the team. This need and expectation of loyalty as a measure of qualification corroded the entire offense. He retired right on time.

It's a mafia-like to demand such loyalty from leaders. It's too bad slurpers understand that his type of leadership decimated the program.

Manny is more introspective, imo.

$3.1M? I thought we would be paying him significantly less.

He better ******* win.

$3.1 M is about right for a P5 coach. About average for a top 20 program. So it’s not out of line.

I have no idea what the deal is with Notre Dame, there may be some unpublished incentives and other forms of payment that aren’t counted as “regular salary“.

We can never play like the top schools, Miami still doesn’t have that kind of money, but we should always be able to pay average or above average if need be.

We should also be able to pay decent salary to assistant coaches and coordinators. Again not like the Alabamas and Ohio States, and some of the other big state schools with huge revenue streams, but enough to make us at least competitive versus many schools, not all.

The days of Miami paying like a G5 school are over
