Diaz needs to go OBVIOUSLY. James needs to go first. But this thread isn't about any of that, but rather about the players and undoing the culture that Diaz pumped up with steroids while complaining about all the while. All the gimmicks, the encouraged celebrating, the little gold stars over every little thing you do right, being at THE U. All of it. If Diaz has any hope at all, it's is if he realizes his massive mistake and implements something like this. If not, the next coach absolutely must.

Remove all those stupid stickers on their helmets and other pointless accolades
Remove The U from every players helmets.
Remove The U from all their practice jerseys, better yet, make them wear ****** used generic practice jerseys from good will or something.
(And this is the hot take) Remove all mentions of great players and championships from the IPF and other practice areas.

Reduce the day to day for these kids as close as you can to how it was when Howard got here. There was none of that. No legacy, no attention, no feelings of having already "made it", no self importance. There's just dirt to practice on, and work. You want to wear The U? Earn it by following the rules and playing hard every snap. Want to play meaningful game minutes? Earn it by being in the playbook instead of on insta. Want to celebrate your TD run or turnover? Do it after winning the game, not when you're trailing FIU in the 3rd.

The turnover chain was a marketing success in 2017 because of a great defense. It didn't create the great defense, and yet Diaz doubled down on the foolishness and revealed his own immaturity. He thinks he's motivating these kids with gimmicks but he's doing the opposite. They don't need to buckle up and work hard in a sustained manner when they're being rewarded for every little thing every step of the way. They just need to work hard enough for that little Instagram moment and check the rest in.

It's a selfish and undisciplined culture and Manny Diaz has made it worse.

Interesting points

“Swag,” he said, his voice rising from a shout to a holler, “is whipping the man on the other side of you. That’s what swag is. Swag is, when the game’s over, we win the game. That’s what swag is. I don’t care what the boys did in the past. The reason why it was swag is because they won. Not because they had some kind of antic.

So, you're saying that hiring from within from a program with known culture problems is NOT a good idea?

Randy Shannon told me this was a great idea...what happened?

Remember when Randy removed the names from the players backs..killed the celebrations. Made the team boring..then went 5-7..op what your suggesting is the same tactical mind game bull**** your critiquing manny on implementing just in the opposite direction...you think a chain is the reason our oline hasn’t been able to block for 2 years?? this is a mediocre team. It was last year. **** the individual recruiting rankings..They have y’all fooled. When u can’t block anyone for 2 years, skill talent means absolutely ****..with all this “talent” a Duke D just beat them playing single High press man and zero coverage

I like all those ideas but I think you need a specific coach to carry that out. A type of coach that we won’t get. It isn’t just Miami kids that come entitled. Look at how these kids are recruited these days. You almost need a Saban like voice to make this type of approach work without half the team transferring.

Then the fans need to also stop wearing the fake turnover chains to games, throwing up the U, talking about the SWAG. This team’s problem is real simple and it’s all coaching... schemes and player development... we got none

Money post. You nailed it, my man. I agree with everything. Start from scratch, including removing the U from the helmets. That should embarass them. Make them get to the top cause they fought for it. Kill the entitled feeling that kills this program.

The team has a great many issues, obvi nothing I said addresses the direly needed schematic changes. These ideas alone won't make the team successful, that much is obvious and is all the Randy example proves. However in addition to schematic, position coaching, and roster management problems, there is indeed an attitude problem which is being fed by all the gimmicky BS. Hit the restart button. Find out who really wants to put in the work with none of that chit.

I agree that Manny is part of the cultural problem though 305to954s point is valid about Shannon taking the names off the uniforms and that nonsense accomplishing nothing.

I think promoting an assistant from a failed staff and expecting a real culture change is a little ridiculous, as it was with Shannon. The program needed new blood.

You can’t fake being a coach. Those gimmicks and what not are Manny. Him going opposite wouldn’t be him and I don’t want people not being themselves. We made a huge mistake hiring him.
His first meeting was a fake wrestling ring.
