Diaz is not immune to criticism

- UVA's Kurt Benkert started 19-for-19 against us on the road.
- Pitt's backup freshman QB, in his first career start, led them to an upset victory over us.
- Clemson's Kelly Bryant started 15-for-15 against us and opened the ACC title game spearheading 3 TD drives.
- Wisconsin's Hornibrook tore this secondary apart despite being their weak link all year.

This was all immediately following the defense's domination of Notre Dame. Diaz' defense fell off a cliff in alarming fashion.

About as an accurate post as you can get.

Also, last night's game further established that not one underclassmen should be declaring early. Not a single one.

Toledo’s QB looked like he was starting on the following Sunday as well at least in the first half..

Defense more to blame imo bc we gave up too many points and made their freahmam wrs look better than anybody on the field.

Offense didn't help either, but it's not play calling it's everything that has to do with being a consistent efficient offense that we lack. No way in **** should it be impossible to get guys like Jeff Thomas and Mike Harley more than one pass attempt an entire game.

Special teams is the worse ive ever seen in years. The entire special teams staff needs to be replaced.
^^^^^THIS!

The depth argument is only valid for being a dominant, dynastic program, but to just win games (that Miami should win or at least be competitive) it comes down to development and coaching.

really? our dbs are horrible. Jaquan has good instincts but is not fast. redwine plays hard but is slow for a miami db. Delaney is trash. Jackson is not a #1 . Young needs to improve, let me down a bit. Bandy, carter, and smith are future playmakers. golden recruited dbs horrible his last two cycles. they inherited a mess.

Our dbs are far From horrible wtf u talking bout??

Hornibrook after the game “They played a lot of man and our wrs beat them off the line. It was easy"

Coming from a guy who was a liability for Wisky all season. I wonder if Wisky would still trade our WRs for theirs? Better believe it everyday and twice on Sundays..

I always wondered how Manny could do so poorly at Texas with a D stacked with 5 stars and a lame *** schedule. Maybe starting to understand that now

This guy has been getting a pass all year because we're producing sacks and TFL's.

Truth is, just about anybody who's willing to run an aggressive 1-gap 4-3 can field a decent defense at Miami. It's not rocket science. We have dudes up front and the best DL coach in the country, we're bound to get sacks and TFL's. Diaz don't get props for that ****.

Ask yourself this question...

If you take away the fancy TFL/sack numbers, what is Miami's defense good at? (10th in the ACC in 3rd down percentage!)

Diaz get a pass cause he's a local guy and fans like him. (I actually like him too)
But the last time we had a decent defense was 2010 and our fans used to rip whoever that DC was. (Lovett?) And that defense was arguably better than our current one.

Not only did we have a ton of TFL's/sacks in 2010 but we had the best pass defense in the ACC. (#3 in the country)

Does anybody actually think the DB unit we had in 2010 was more talented than the DB's we have right now?
And our fans HATED that defense/DC, meanwhile we continue to give passes to Diaz.
Lovett fielded a better defense and he's coaching CB's at Cal right now! So it doesn't take a fvckin' defensive guru to field a decent unit here!

Fvckin' 72 points the past 2 games. We just got carved up by a QB at Wisconsin. Let that sink in. They averaged a whopping 192 passing yards per game this season. SMH
Spare me the excuses.

Had to be 2010. That's when we had Petri as our D-line coach. When Golden chose to not retain him, that was my first warning sign with Golden. But I agree with your overall assessment.

There are at least seven players along the front seven that will play in the NFL, you also have Johnson and Jackson in the secondary. The components were there to have a top 10 defense this year and Diaz failed.

Folks need to stare reality in the face. Manny Diaz is the problem; the defense was shredded all season.

This is 100% our version Texas year 2. Diaz was fired for a reason!!!

Texas fans are sickened over the name “Manny Diaz” just like we curse the name Dorito.

Diaz went Randy Shannon going Zone, scared to cover man on man.

What?! LOL

Rushed 4 and played Zone, not hard to see and I have brain injury ha.

We actually played a ton of man coverage.

And Stopped playing man in 3rd and played few downs of man in nick3l package. Big plays came when they were in zone and Wisconsin exploited the seams of the D throwing the ball.

It’s amazing how you guys are killing Diaz!! Don’t get me wrong we’re there times I felt he shouldn’t of been in zone absolutely!! But we were second in the nation in turnovers!!! I think that is pretty dam good!!! This defense has gotten better every year since Diaz has been here!! The offense was bailed out countless times by the defense!!! Malik has been horrible all season long missing throws and not capitalizing on the defense efforts of getting more possessions!! All you ****s that are saying Diaz is the worst is obviously dilusuional!!! And obviously looking for attention with your post!! Did the defense play great last night no but the game changed when Malik threw that terrible interception. Up to that point the defense was doing a good job!! After a while a defense just get tired of carrying a offense that can’t keep them off the field!!!

Not a championship caliber def yet, but let’s be honest, our two biggest concerns this season was the QB play and our 2ndary. Dee Delaney did not live up not to the billing and we see y Dean stopped being heavily recruited by Bama. Bandy was a bright spot and Malek Young had moments, but he’s not a boundary guy, he’s a slot guy. JJ is solid, but Redwine can be a liability more often than not.

The great news is we have Carter and Smith maturing, and we are going to have an infusion of talent coming in w the 2018 class.

Also, let’s not act like the def didn’t gift the offense many, many, MANY times this year and our O did nothing w it. This offense left our D out to dry a lot this season by not sustaining drives, not punching it in from the 20, not converting TOs in to points, and way too many 3 and outs.

With that being said, the 3rd down def, tackling from the LBs, and the DBs getting their heads around MUST be addressed like now. Diaz is not exempt from criticism. But I think there’s a reason we played so much zone this year compared to last year....we didn’t have the personnel to be a man def like we did last year. Once the O balances the D, we’ll be unstoppable.

No we didn't. I re-watched the game last night. We mixed it up and we got beat in both.

Certified dip****, the kind that doesn't watch a snap of football beside canes football and has no idea what is actually important, or what she is talking about.

Turnovers, sacks and tackles for loss don't mean a ******* thing if you give up long drives (total defense), because you can't get off the field on third down (third down %), and then fail to stop them in the red zone (red zone %).

Those are the important stats, and we rank 38th, 75th, and 105th respectively. It doesn't need to be an either or, but you absolutely need to be better in the metrics that actually keep points off the board, not the ones that the **** faced fair weather retards with chin straps and tank tops jump up and down about. Diaz is a **** coach. Our defense, is a **** defense, one that could be replicated by any madden playing idiot who runs a single gap attacking defense with the players on our roster. Our fan base is by and large to much of a blue lot body bag life turnover chain dumb**** to see past the flash plays and realize how little he actually got from what is likely going to be a starting unit with as many as 9 nfl players on it.

Coach Macho killing it in this thread.

People here will ********** to tfl's and sacks while being ranked in the 60's on d and getting raped on third downs.
