Diaz is not immune to criticism

Starting to question him as a DC. His unit ended the year getting worked by four teams, three of which had mediocre offenses.

Wisconsin has the number one rated defense in the country so an offensive struggle was expected. With all their errors, 24 points should have been good enough to beat a one dimensional team with a mediocre QB and true freshmen WR's. Instead the latter two had career nights...

Last night ended it for me with Manny. I see why he's been run out of town previously. His defense is all flash with no substance. I'm pretty sure I could throw my daughter's 3rd grade flag football team out there and he couldn't stop them either.

Is it squarely on Manny or is it cause he was forced to run zone since they were beating Delaney, Bandy, and Dean when in man coverage? Think its a combination of not having enough quality depth and not knowing when to call certain packages. He can be criticized for sure but look at it from two perspectives.

Both. We lost 4 DBs to nfl. Never saw elder or Colbert w back of helmet to QB.
Almost seems like we coach it BC we have no choice.
We’ll see next year. BTW Did Wisconsin even throw towards MJ? Glad he’s returning.

We did get beat on some great catches in man. However, we were getting off field faster in man.
Were the man Defense fails following Wisconsin marching down field on us in zone?

People bashed me when I said Diaz still had some proving to do because I thought the LB play declined, LB recruiting was average, and we didn't look elite. I said weeks ago that Kool is responsible for our defensive sucess. Replace Kool with an average DL coach and we'd be ranked 70 or worse on defense.

I mean look at those dumb blitzes we would do on 3rd and long or constant stunts. Whoever said our defense was gimmicky was spot on. Kinda like my arguement with the turnover chain... Doing gimmicky things is not sustainable for long term success.

This. I use to be on the fire Rumph train but I got off after Syracuse game. Im ready to jump back on but I'll do that if we belly flop on the AH kids. That will be Jobe, Hernderson, Samuels, Wilson, Campbell, and Surtain we flopped on at the CB position.

IDK how u pull elite cbs now after these last 4 games on NSD. You think Surtain Sr looking at how our cbs dnt turn thier heads like "I want to send my son there."

3rd and 11, automatic first down. In three straight losses giving up an average of 30 points a game and making freshman and a QB with turnover problems look like money.

When you had possibly the 2 worst defensive coaches in the history of college football (Dorito and Paul Williams) there is no where to go but up. Again I didn’t like the Manny Diaz hire after Aranda decided to go to LSU. Plenty of better Xs and Os DCs out there. I like Manny’s passion for the game and he seems to be a decent recruiter.

However this isn’t a popularity contest. My buddy at UT in Austin when Manny was hired said that we were cursed going from Dorito then Diaz. That we would live to regret it well I don’t want to throw Manny under the bus but now I am seeing his point. A true freshman Pitt QB looks like Dan Marino and last night a true freshman WR looks like Jerry Rice and has 3 TDs.

Yeah keep telling yourself that we need more depth and talent needs more than that on the D.

I aint a diaz fan but when the offense converts 1 3rd down the whole fckin game then i don't want to hear shît.

That is the issue right there. those THREE INTERCEPTIONS turned the tide of the game.

absolutely not a Rosier fan. but interceptions are a product of several things.. The first interception was a "no read" tlhrow. The left tackle has to pancake the DE. He doesn't and that's that. The throw to Crager was not good but the "pants stripping" didn't help as the throw was late. The last (and hopefully really the last) was tipped by the receiver (throw was behind but workable). unfortunately they all go down as QB thrown interceptions

Nah, Malik Rosier ruined this season. I don't give a **** what anyone who argues otherwise has to say.

Yeah the backup qb who set the single season record for TDs by a Miami qb, beat FSU and ND, and led a Miami team to the ACC championship game ruined the season

View attachment 56780

He beat ND? He threw for 130 yards. He beat FSU? He had 2 good drives the entire game.

The defense carried him the beginning of the season and when the D needed him to bail them out? He folded

That sh*t was pathetic out there period, far worse than the offense tonight

Hard to play great d when you are gassed. We needed some more consistent offense. The corners and safeties had a bad game though. I can't believe we had that much trouble with man coverage against them. But, the front 7 were gassed.

Secondary played terrible...guys got beat in man coverage all game. Run defense wasn't terrible considering they were running 2/3TE sets, 2 FB sets, etc. but pass rush was missing most of the game.

Diaz has to take some responsibility, but the D was hung out to dry again during the 2nd/3rd quarters when the offense did nothing to hold onto the ball

Agree. I will say that the coverage on all of the TD's was not bad at all. Our guys were right there on all of them. The guy was throwing darts all night. He made some great throws and their receivers made some very good catches in traffic while covered. He had time to throw but that's what Wisky does. I thought our D was ok and played well enough to win. I thought we did a good job containing their running attack.

Garbage *** players from the get go. It's not surprising that a true freshman came and took pt from others.

Garbage players or not the simple fact no one seems to turn thier heads when the WR starts looking for the ball is a sign of poor coaching.

Agree - if they turn their heads they make the play. Whisky must have seen that on film as they seemed confident in throwing those passes.

Why is it that most QBs this year threw darts? 1 or 2 games ok but after a while you notice a pattern going on here. How many stars did Wisky’s DBs have coming out of high school?

He threw 2 or 3 others that should have been and almost were picked too...The terrible throws on 3rd down killed us also.

You're from Pac 12 country, so no wonder you don't have a clue. That's a place where underachiving by pre-season Top 5 teams and so called Heisman Hopefulls makes people come up with all sorts of BS to explain things.

Defense more to blame imo bc we gave up too many points and made their freahmam wrs look better than anybody on the field.

Offense didn't help either, but it's not play calling it's everything that has to do with being a consistent efficient offense that we lack. No way in **** should it be impossible to get guys like Jeff Thomas and Mike Harley more than one pass attempt an entire game.

Special teams is the worse ive ever seen in years. The entire special teams staff needs to be replaced.

- UVA's Kurt Benkert started 19-for-19 against us on the road.
- Pitt's backup freshman QB, in his first career start, led them to an upset victory over us.
- Clemson's Kelly Bryant started 15-for-15 against us and opened the ACC title game spearheading 3 TD drives.
- Wisconsin's Hornibrook tore this secondary apart despite being their weak link all year.

This was all immediately following the defense's domination of Notre Dame. Diaz' defense fell off a cliff in alarming fashion.

About as an accurate post as you can get.

Also, last night's game further established that not one underclassmen should be declaring early. Not a single one.
