Diaz - HCIW

If this happens, we're pretty far out from it. The BoT values head coaching experience at a major program, especially after the Coker and Shannon debacles. I'm not sure he's ready to manage a program, yet.

But he's the best candidate we've had for that in a while, and it could make sense. I really like Diaz. He's as hometown as you can get and a lot of shades of Jimmy Johnson. I still don't see it happening.

The HCIW thing was en vogue for a bit and really isn't much of a thing anymore. Why? Because it usually doesn't work out all that well. Only good example I can think of is Jimbo.

Odds are Manny gets plucked by a middle of the pack program, perhaps this offseason, gets a few years under his belt, and then maybe gets an interview when Richt is done.

Pretty much every year since 2001 that Miami ran a 4-3 defense we were in the top 25 for total defense, regardless of the coordinator. Manny has been competent at his job, which on Rick's staff makes him look like Bill Belichick.

I think we can do better long term. I'd be ok if he was the HC to finish out the season though. Also Butch is getting up there in years, probably has 3-4 more left in him, I would be happy to see Manny as the HC at FIU (although he'll probably be able to land a gig at a lesser P5 school like Minnesota)

Never know until you give him a chance.every year defense is just as good or better the previous year.listen to his interviews he knows what it takes.I guarantee he'd put his foot up a few assistants you know what on offense and special teams and made them work their tails off to fix it.

I like Diaz and want him to succeed. Having said that, I feel you're going to get some attributes with him as HC that we fault Richt on. For one, he hired guys that he was comfortable with, not necessarily guys that could come in and provide a breadth of experience to help his unit improve. This would likely be the same issue with him as a HC. And second, recruiting on the defensive side has been extremely shaky for 3 years now. He needs to learn to improve in this department. Manny needs to spend a few years as HC in the G5 school and then come to Miami.

Or get some recruiters on his staff. I'd rather have Mario Cristobal at HC and Diaz at DC. Because Cristobal would make his *** recruit a lot better.

I don't want Cristobal at HC. The litmus test was how would he do at a program. Here he has a 1st round QB at the helm and he's riding a 6-4 season. Cristobal can recruit, but his teams so far are a massive disappointment on the field.

Well, it ain’t. CMR isn’t going anywhere And neither is Diaz. He stays put. Don’t know why you guys do this to yourselves. Maybe, maybe Searles is asked to leave. That’s it, IMO

His hires have done their job.

After considering Diaz’ lack of experience, I have come to the conclusion that I would 1000% rather
They have on the field for the most part, how about on the recruiting trail?
yea. I get it. I’ll take coaching over recruiting at this point. I think they’ll recruit better as they continue to field good Ds

As soon as I get excited regarding more indicators of Rick’s impending departure I always have those who mention Manolo Diaz as the new HC and it brings me back down to Earth again.
