Diaz and staff deserve some praise.....

Your back under a different name.m!!!!

Oh, God. Is any new poster who isn’t praising Manny Diaz from the rooftops going to be accused of being a troll?

Believe it or not, we still are playing terrible football. Just somewhat less terrible football than we were playing earlier in the year.

First 5 games of the season saw us average 11.2 penalties a game -- worst in the entire country. The next 5 games has seen us average 4 penalties a game -- good enough for top 20 in the country.

First 5 games of the season the OL gave up 28 sacks. The last 5 games the OL has given up 11 sacks.

Can't do anything but give max praise to the coaches.

/Fire Baker still

I think we were all optimistic heading into this season, but once the reality of our OL came into focus Week 0 against UFag, we knew this season would not be a walk in the park. As disappointed as I was with the OL performance the first half of the season, two Freshman OTs can only be counted on just so much in all reality. Very glad to see how they have gelled and improved though over the last few games.

Same with the Secondary. Losing the leadership of JJ, Redwine and MJ was very evident. Glad to see Hall, Ivey and Blades grow up this season. Get Bubba back healthy next season and that's a good group on the backend.

My real disappointment however has been 3 things:

1. Enos' inability early on to recognize the limitations of our OL and adjust the offensive schemes to best suit our personnel
2. Baker's subpar performance with the Defense the first half of the season. The VT and GT losses were inexcusable.
3. The **** kicking game yet again. Hundley has been solid but the field goal failures have cost us.

As OP stated, gotta give credit to Manny for keeping the guys unified and fighting. I give Manny this year to transition, but he's got to finish out strong with a bowl win and carry the momentum into 2020.

Only position that scares me next season is LB. For all the Shaq bashers, the loss of his leadership and Pinck will be felt for sure. Puts that much more pressure on the 1st and 3rd levels of the D to be solid to compensate.

Stubblefeild and Barry have really distinguished themselves. Their units are showing marked improvement and they are developing their players. Much respect to those two. They had to weather all of the adversity that came when the team started at 3-4 but they just kept their noses to the grindstone and kept working. Much respect to those two and the entire staff for hanging in there when the going got nearly unbearable. I would like to single out Butch Barry as his unit was getting an insane amount of heat and deservedly so as that unit was as awful as you will see the first half of the year. Barry hung in there and never let his guys quit. They just kept working and we are beginning to see the results as the OL has made a significant improvement over the last few weeks.

All of these position coaches and coordinators who have stuck it out and have kept coaching and teaching through the shytstorm are motivated by one man and that's the head coach as it all starts at the top. Being the head coach Manny Diaz was responsible for the poor start we had and by the same logic he is also responsible for what is starting to look like a huge turnaround. This team has most definitely turned a corner and has improved in all facets of the game most notably OL, penalties, defense and special teams with WR being in there as well. I'm not here trying to proclaim that the guy is Nick Saban or Dabo Swinney just that Diaz has engineered a nice turnaround in the face of tremendous adversity and deserves to be praised for it.

We still need to finish it out by beating FIU and Duke but that task seems so much more doable than it did a month ago. I remember ripping Diaz and staff for the clown show we were witnessing on a game to game basis and I said that I would much rather Diaz turn it around and prove me wrong because that would be so much better for the program right now. Well, Diaz has gone a good way towards doing exactly that and the finish line is in sight in terms of completing a total team turnaround. Winning out and finishing 9-4 with a Bowl win while continuing to improve is the goal now and it is reachable. If Diaz pulls that off after the way things were going after GT, he will earn major respect and admiration from this fan base and deservedly so. I'm pulling for him and this team in a big way.

Guys, again I'm not sitting here trying to tell you that Diaz is the guy that's going to lead us to multiple titles. I'm not saying that he is some Yoda level type guru/coach. All I want to get across is that after the Georgia Tech loss this team was 3-4 and at a point where the locker room could have completely disintegrated and this team could have easily packed it in and tuned out the staff. That did not happen however and what we have seen is tangible improvement in many areas like penalties, lack of discipline, poor OL play. Erratic and disjointed play on defense, average WR play, terrible special teams and horrendous play calling. We have seen tangible evidence of improvement in every one of those areas in addition to player development and a team that is clearly still together. I'm not saying we're ready for Clemson but I am saying that Diaz deserves some credit for keeping this team together and improving in the face of tremendous adversity.

I'm with you on most of this. I cant blame Diaz for the 3-4 start. I'm with you on the coordinators grinding teaching and its showing.

If we finish 9-4 it was a good season and Manny can be praised bc he made it through some tough adversity in year one. Also it seems like the positional coaches are developing guys. Future is looking good if they keep improving from week to week

So because their best player broke a long one on our second string defense you’re in your feel feels about the W? Sounds reasonable hahaha. Get a grip mane. Louisville averages 32.8 points a game and have a good offense. We held them under their averages and whooped that ***. Yet you’re still salty. U must be a joy to be around

We obviously have different standards. Ok. Life is grand.

9-4 should not be considered a good season, especially in a year where the ACC is this crappy. And tbh, we’ve been lucky (Pitt, UVA, to some extent even Louisville) at least as often as we’ve been unlucky (VT, to some extent UNC.)

Richt in year 1 went 9-4 against a tough ACC, and easily could have gone at least 10-3 with a few plays with a little more luck. That was the type of acceptable 9-4. Not this crap 9-4.

That's right 18 years of being a 7-9 win team and you have standards hahaha. You've been bashing the team all year, but yet they should live up to your standards. Matter of fact in the history of our program we have only been good for about 25 years of it, but they didn't meet your standards hahaha. You're that guy congrats. Life is grand

I've tried to not say anything negative about them this week. That is a far as I am prepared to go.

the difference is a 1st time head coach vs a proven veteran coach. Diaz lost a few games bc of poor head coaching and if u can see that idk what to tell u. I’m in no way a Diaz slurper but I will give credit where credit is due

Completely stupid. Like... Alabama still had standards even though they were trash for decades. Same for USC when they hired Pete. Same for OSU and Tressel. Find some depth. You’re the guy that allows his wife to sleep around because things haven’t been the same in the house for a couple of decades.

Don’t project your home life on me. Not my fault u get cucked weekly. Learn to sling the D and maybe u won’t taste other dudes

You’re the guy who talks about standards but probably doesn’t have any in his life. Low standards in ur own life but want to try and hold other to higher then tries to be witty by saying stupid **** like find some depth. But hey u sound cool talking about standards on the interwebz.
