I think we'll be fine at TE the next couple of years.
Once Clive graduated we will have Stan and Chris as Jr. and So. Here is how they compare physically to Clive from the July testing.
Clive Walford (6'4", 258: 4.89 40 (4.83 best), 4.53 20, 22 reps of 225, 405 squat, 257 power clean, 350 bench press, 33 vertical
Stan Dobard (6'4", 255): 4.97 40 (4.88 best), 4.67 20, 15 reps of 225, 430 squat, 286 power clean, 350 bench press, 25 inches
Chris Herndon (6'4", 245: 4.82 40 (4.79 best), 4.62 20, 17 reps of 225
David Njoku (6'4", 230): 4.76 40 (4.67 best), 4.64 20, nine reps of 225, 275 power clean, 35.5 vertical
Remember Clive is a 5th year guy. Stan and Herndon are much further along in their development at this point in their careers. Stan came in last year squating only 315 and benching 310 and cleaning 247 at 261 lbs. He has shed some bad weight and is more solid this year. He will only get better in the next couple of years. Herndon is another athlete who is only a true freshmen, he is already 245 and faster than Clive. If he continues to develop, he will be another good one.
The guy that I think will also eventually make a big difference at TE in the future is Njoku. He is getting redshirted and listed as a WR but he is already 230 lbs. I think Clive came in here at around 200-210 as a freshmen. Here is a post I put up about here in the summer.
Only question is whether he has the mental makeup for defense. Physically he's a specimen. I was really hoping for him to become that explosive TE we've been lacking. (which he still can be)
@David_Njoku80: Speed Tight End. I can dig it
D$ and I had been saying from the jump the coaches were going to put him at tight end, I think this is the right position for him
Before we start calling him a TE, let's see what number he's wearing at the scrimmage.
Njoku reminds me a lot of another out of state jumbo WR that converted to TE at the U, Kellen Winslow II. They both came in at 6’4” but Njoku is already 20lbs heavier than Winslow was as a true freshman and both ran in the 4.6-4.7 range out of high school. Winslow ran a 4.62 at the NFL combine and a 4.55 on Pro day, Njoku ran a 4.67 in the July. They are both great athlete who played both ways in high school. If Njoku continues to develop physically, I can see him getting to 250-260 range while retaining his speed and athleticism. Here is a side by side comparison of the 2 great athletes.

Njoku will be a beast at TE. Reminds me of KWII. WR speed and very athletic.
Look how much bigger he is compared to our other WR as a true freshmen!
