Devonaire Clarington

who does he play for now?

He stayed at Booker T Wash because transferring again would have wrecked his chances of getting past the NCAA admissions clearinghouse (which will be a mountain of a task as it is, with all of his previous transfers).

Go Canes

Seems like the type of player the staff views as a take just to inflate the class ranking who has very little chance of actually qualifying, i.e. AJL and Griffin.

It's really surprising that TE recruiting this cycle has been so poor. You'd think we'd be in much better shape there with how impressive Kaaya has looked and how often he's targeted Walford, aside from the VTech game.

We will land one maybe a 3 star with a very high ceiling or move one of those tall WR example David Njoku to TE

I think we'll be fine at TE the next couple of years.

Once Clive graduated we will have Stan and Chris as Jr. and So. Here is how they compare physically to Clive from the July testing.
Clive Walford (6'4", 258: 4.89 40 (4.83 best), 4.53 20, 22 reps of 225, 405 squat, 257 power clean, 350 bench press, 33 vertical
Stan Dobard (6'4", 255): 4.97 40 (4.88 best), 4.67 20, 15 reps of 225, 430 squat, 286 power clean, 350 bench press, 25 inches
Chris Herndon (6'4", 245: 4.82 40 (4.79 best), 4.62 20, 17 reps of 225
David Njoku (6'4", 230): 4.76 40 (4.67 best), 4.64 20, nine reps of 225, 275 power clean, 35.5 vertical

Remember Clive is a 5th year guy. Stan and Herndon are much further along in their development at this point in their careers. Stan came in last year squating only 315 and benching 310 and cleaning 247 at 261 lbs. He has shed some bad weight and is more solid this year. He will only get better in the next couple of years. Herndon is another athlete who is only a true freshmen, he is already 245 and faster than Clive. If he continues to develop, he will be another good one.

The guy that I think will also eventually make a big difference at TE in the future is Njoku. He is getting redshirted and listed as a WR but he is already 230 lbs. I think Clive came in here at around 200-210 as a freshmen. Here is a post I put up about here in the summer.

Only question is whether he has the mental makeup for defense. Physically he's a specimen. I was really hoping for him to become that explosive TE we've been lacking. (which he still can be)

@David_Njoku80: Speed Tight End. I can dig it

D$ and I had been saying from the jump the coaches were going to put him at tight end, I think this is the right position for him

Before we start calling him a TE, let's see what number he's wearing at the scrimmage.

Njoku reminds me a lot of another out of state jumbo WR that converted to TE at the U, Kellen Winslow II. They both came in at 6’4” but Njoku is already 20lbs heavier than Winslow was as a true freshman and both ran in the 4.6-4.7 range out of high school. Winslow ran a 4.62 at the NFL combine and a 4.55 on Pro day, Njoku ran a 4.67 in the July. They are both great athlete who played both ways in high school. If Njoku continues to develop physically, I can see him getting to 250-260 range while retaining his speed and athleticism. Here is a side by side comparison of the 2 great athletes.

Njoku will be a beast at TE. Reminds me of KWII. WR speed and very athletic.

Look how much bigger he is compared to our other WR as a true freshmen!

I like how we are at TE too. Right now I think Dobard is going to be a even bigger beast at blocking as he is this year. Next season, I think Njoku and Herndon can step in an give a nice recieving option as well. But I hope that Dobard can step in and be that TE who can do it all for us. We will have to see though! Also guys, lets not forget. We have Gosier coming in as well. We may be able to convince him that there will be more money in gaining a little more weight and becoming a TE. He is going to be a matchup nightmare.

that was my other guy who I thought might be moved to TE

Weird interview when he is asked about miami he always answers "I'd rather not say". He feels that people over analyze everything he says about schools and there is a perception he is a cane lock and he thinks that causes other schools not to recruit him as hard.

From what I hear abuot Clarington, bottom line is it's about grades. If he has the grades, he is UM. If not, think of an Auburn.

From rivals....

Miami Booker T. Washington High School 4-star Devonaire Clarington is keeping his recruitment steeped in mystery.

He lists offers from around the country, but when asked how many schools he talks to a week, Clarington says "I prefer not to say."

He'll tell you that Cane coaches came by his school last Friday, but asked how much love UM coaches are showing him he again says "I prefer not to say."

He does that of UM that "they're still up there" in his recruiting picture.

"Miami's definitely still in it with me," Clarington said.

But he "prefers not to say" which programs he's serious about.

"I don't want to say because people get all emotional and have feelings about things," Clarington said. "There are people that swear I committed to Miami, and that kind of held up my recruitment. So I'm going to show everyone love."

The schools he does mention are ones he's in the process of visiting/setting up visits.

He'll be in Texas next month and has visited Florida unofficially. He's also setting up an LSU visit.

Clarington says he plans to announce a decision at the Army All-American game, then adds "but even after that I'll probably take visits."

Clarington has six sacks this season after moving to defensive end at Booker T. He expects to play tight end in college.
