Devon Dampier Utah QB

His throwing mechanics and arm strength are interesting....

I think id prefer Fifita over him.

First highlight I've ever seen an interception in (3:38). The (7.38) throw might as well have been an interception too.

We would still win the acc with him tho. Not too fast, but seems like a very skilled runner (good vision, good shiftiness, deceptive power)

I haven’t seen a lot of CFB except Miami so I’m not a quarterback expert but he’s a pretty dynamic player who’s run for close to 1000 yards the last few seasons. Utah was 4th in scoring offense and 5th in total offense and he’s the reason why. When we were all forced to watch B12 football down the stretch hoping for Utah and BYU losses and came away by him. He’s very helter skelter but exciting. Honestly I don’t see much difference between him, Sorsby- who he thoroughly outplayed when they went against each other and Leavitt.

In a lot of ways he’s a more dynamic version of Haynes king.
He’s terrible

I wouldn’t have any grand illusions of him throwing for 3500-4000 yards or anything. But our passing attack isn’t super vertical to begin with anyway.

At the end of the day we just need a QB who’s good enough to keep us in the CFP conversation.
Simpson or some unnamed QB in that tier keeps us in the Natty convo, but we can’t slide back to 8 win territory. A lot worse we could do than this kid imo.

Cam was also a turnover machine prior to Miami. Guys are allowed to improve and—while his playcalling is sometimes head-scratching—I feel Dawson has earned the benefit of the doubt the last two years with Cam and Beck.

And while currently not the passer as those two guys, the defense would 100% have to account for his mobility, which would open up more opportunities down field. That's an element we didn't have this year.

A lot of Cam’s problem with the cast around him. Which forced him to have to play hero ball to the extreme.
It makes sense a lot of that went away when he actually got a talent advantage around him.

Dampier’s offense cast at Utah was very good.
And his OC at Utah is making a name of himself as one of the elite OCs in CFB. I would take him 100 out of 100 times over Dawson.

So Dampier had all the advantages you’d want at Utah.

He would make the run game more dynamic. His throwing mechanics are interesting im surprised he only threw 5 INTs tbh. lol

The average depth of throw is on the low end.

If the ball isn’t traveling in the air that long, you’re not going to throw a many INTs.

Why are some in this thread acting like this guy is bad? Completed 63.5%, only 5 picks, and is an extremely good runner.

May not be an elite downfield passer, but in those highlights he showed that he's clearly capable of making all kinds of throws. Besides, are we really pretending Beck is some elite deep ball passer? He could absolutely run the offense we have ran this season, and then you add in a whole other running element that defenses would be forced to account for.

Who knows how legit these rumors are, but he's leaps and bounds better than any QB we currently have on roster. Would be a pretty **** good get as a backup plan.
