Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas High School WR Devante Peete got a visit from Cane coaches a couple of weeks ago.

"They came to the school and talked to me, said they liked what they've seen from me," Peete said. "Coach Brennan (Carroll), he's the main one recruiting me and he's a great guy. We have a great relationship, and I have a great relationship with the whole staff. They visited me two weeks ago, came to the school - they were saying I looked good."

Peete says UM will get an official visit; he's also planning to visit Louisville (Jan. 16), LSU, Florida State and Syracuse.

And Peete says the Canes have ground to make up - "as of right now FSU and Louisville are my top two," he said.

Peete previously listed FSU and Miami as his top two.

What does Miami need to do to catch up?

"I just have to wait till I come down and take my official, talk to coaches more," Peete said.

Of when he'll announce a decision, he said, "I want to say in the next month, before signing day. I'll do it after my visits."

Peete adds of UM that "my family grew up Miami fans, I've been going to Miami since my ninth grade for camps. That plays a big role. I see them having a great team next year; a lot of young guys played this season."

Hopefully he will realize that he will play for a stud QB in Kaaya at the very least for the next two years. UL nor FSU can offer it.

Not sure if u realize, FSU has 3 (4 star qb's) for next year, and number 1 QB in Nation committed for 2016. Don't expect a drop off at FSU. The days of EJ Manual seem gone. And Louisville has some good QB's on the roster also. Coupled with Petrino being there another year, and i expect a very good offensive product out of them also.

We definitely could use him though And Kaaya seems to have a good future once he gets stronger and shows it in big games.

Peete is going to have a lot of trouble getting into any school. His grades and test scores could prevent him from enrolling.

FSU does have QB's coming in, but history has shown that championship caliber QB's come almost once a decade. Go back to 92-93 they had Charlie Ward. They had to wait until about 99 to get Chris Weinke. Then they had to wait over a decade to find Winston. It's not a gimmie that they won't drop off because they have depth. It doesn't guarantee anything. Trust me.

Point is they got a helluva of group QB's like good teams, coaches and recruiters do to eventually replace a super star. That's why Al gotta go! Ain't in the area code as really good coaches.

If I remember correctly back then, they did not have anyone else, and there really was no Qb race. it was manual by default. So when Manuel proved to not be any good, they did not have anyone else to fall back on and give a try. They seem to be bringing in depth now, and will have many choices. But, u are correct, i think manuel was a 5 star.

I guessed you missed the so-so 4 star that played in the Clemson game. Guy couldn't complete a pass 5 yds downfield. Yeah, Peete would love to play with that clown, or some unproven QB as opposed to a Frosh AA QB that is only getting better.

Winston was a true freshman EJ's last year

Well, I had to look up the stats and the players name.

Shawn Maguire, was 21/39 for 309 yards and a TD in his 1st ever start against the best defense in ACC. I would take that in a kids 1st ever game. With a couple of days of practice with 1st team. And even better for the kid, they won.

Winston is a once in a generation talent. There will absolutely be a drop-off when he leaves. Comparing unknowns at FSU and "good QB's" at Louisville to Kaaya is just ridiculous. You're obviously trolling.

It's not like FSU was unbeatable with Winston either, I mean 7-8 games teams thought they had them beat until they pulled some kind of magnificent comeback. If their next QB, whether it be a freshman or Mcguire, if they get in that situation 7-8 times a season they will be lucky to pull off 2 or maybe 3 comebacks.

FSU wont be nearly as good next year, a new QB, 4/5 of the OL gone, best receiver, #2 RB. Then on defense if Mario and Goldman leave they lose 3/4 of their DL, they return most LB, then both corners are projected to go in the draft and that could leave them with just Ramsey in the secondary. FSU will drop off and should be beatable. I dont think another loss to FSU next year for Golden, even on the road is acceptable.

Phillips will be FSU's 4th wr commitment in a couple weeks....I doubt they are after 5 wrs this year especially since they only have a few openings left.
