Derrick Smith

Derrick will definitely remain at Safety. This pic was just posted today by Banda. I am not an insider by any stretch of the imagination. However, one of Derrick's girlfriends still lives here in Jacksonville, in which I work with, and also am pretty close friends with her father. Our families are close friends.

I've spoken with Derrick on a few occasions when I've been over to my co-workers house, and met him a few times as well.

My co-worker/friend is a huge gaytor fan, and so is his daughter. He is always trying to get Derrick to tranfer to UF, though he knows it will never happen. As of last week, I was over there when Derrick called. Derrick was just talking about how excited he is to be in the position that he is in at Miami. He really feels like he has the inside track to be starting at Safety during the 19, 20 seasons.

FYI: I will never put their business out there, but I can say that we, as fans, are not the only ones frustrated with Knowles. Several players share our sentiments.

**** Reg u gotta change the part where u said one of his girlfriends, u dry snitchin bruh.

I typically sit back and listen to people just spout off. Most posters would have moved Sean Taylor to DT by now.

I'm not trying to say to move him to LB, but I was just highlighting he has the frame/ability to add to be as big as a LB. Like other guys have mentioned, we will have some good competition at Safety....which is a **** good thing.

What is the obsession with positional moves due to possible weight gain? Everyone in this board thinks if the DB is a hair over 195 he’ll be a LB down the road....

Guys like Frierson and Smith are freaks. Fri is gonna be a 215 pound DB. Smith is gonna be a 220 S.

Well it's not like a big S moving to LB is that unusual. In fact, Miami has been one of the more notable programs moving kids to "bigger" positions to get more speed on the field. Jimmy Johnson believed that's the way you built a fast defense -- move Safeties to LB, move LBs to DE, and move DEs to DT. Beat people with speed.

I also think people are obsessed over only getting 1 LB in the '18 class and are thinking moving Carter or Smith to LB can alleviate LB problems after the '16 LB trio leave. FWIW I think Carter would be a better candidate to move than Smith because he doesn't move as well in coverage. I also think
we'll knock it out of the park with LBs in the '19 class and we won't need anyone of the Safeties to move to LB.

But again, moving big Safeties to LB is hardly a novel concept.

Doubtful. Safety is too important in Diaz's system. Even if Hall, Smith, or Carter are more talented, they WILL make more mistakes than Redwine would. Diaz is going to want the consistency that having both Redwine and Jaquan out there will bring.
Obviously All 3 are going to get a good amount of snaps, and hopefully Knowles and Finley literally only play on ST and then transfer out next offseason.
I don't know that Redwine makes good decisions. I would respectfully disagree. Bad angles & horrible tackler, so even if he is in position, he fails to the play far too often.

Red has been getting solid burn since CB his sophomore year. I am pretty sure that isn't because the coaches love him. Bandy plays a different position. Carter/Smith/Knowles/Finley weren't ready and/or not talented enough. Just look at the amount of snaps Knowles got - that should tell you all you need to know. Redwine was the tallest midget in the room.

I have no prediction as to who it will be, but I am fairly confident that this prediction will come to fruition.

I wonder if knowles would transfer
No need he is actually one of our better special teams players. Im cool with him there and spot duty. And i was as critical of him during the season as anyone.

He's good for this season.

Next season though I'd tell him to hit the road jack....Finley first though.
