2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

To your point, if you breakdown the position groups even further in the NFL (LT, RG, WR1, FS, SS, etc) a WR1 is the highest paid behind QB and just before LT. WR group as a whole is around #5.

I’ll have to disagree with OL not being as important offensively. If you look at Clemson, they had two generational QB’s and another great one in Klubnik. Hard to hit that good at QB consistently.. Lincoln has and that model has worked. For most it won’t, and probably not here. When Cam was at wazzou, I don’t think his skill players were as far behind UM’s as the OL was.. and you see the difference in results he had.

Personnel wise, I think Mario is getting it right on offense so far with who we’ve paid up for. Let’s not forget Lyle wasn’t cheap, neither was Martinez. He just needs to finally hit on an elite WR1 to take it to the next level.
Agree for the most part. OL is not to be overlooked. Mario has done fine with the offense. Our WR talent was good enough to contend for a championship last year. As stated by multiple people on the board, difference between good teams and great is monsters at DT. Pay big there, rush ends and cover corners.

A good DC helps too & Mario has whiffed there, hopefully Hetherman is the real deal

Agreed. I think we’re still in the “prove we can be really good consistently phase,” not the “win it all phase” yet.

Roster construction and value matters in a world with limited funds. I think WR1 and DT bidding has probably gotten a bit ahead of itself. That is not to underscore the importance of those positions, but you can’t compromise the rest of your roster blowing your load on those.

Build the base of the roster to be really good consistently, and then pay up when you’re ready to really make a run at winning big. We’re heading in the right direction.

From an optics standpoint.... In the last 2 seasons Texas has been in back to back playoffs and has only lost a total of 5 games.

Optics can be the only thing worth debating because there's no way in **** you're implying we're on the same level when it comes to money.

With a quick search.... I see Texas last 3 recruiting classes has finished in the top 5. Ain't no ******* way we're on any level with them
Now look up Georgias recruiting classes…10 straight years in the Top 3
Oh trust me... didn't even need to look that up. But yeah, no one has said(to my knowledge) that we're on uga's level. I can't believe ppl think we're on the same level or even close to Texas tho.

were spending in portal QBs which is fine, but just makes it that you will never probably land an elite kid out of HS and are always chasing rather than developing with a stop gap QB in place.

we hit on one, busted on the other with OT so far (in terms of high money commitments).

we arent getting our moneys worth on the DL at all. a lot of money spent and a lot of misses and 1 year transfers mixed in there.
Ill die on the hill that we have not had a decent DL coach since Mario got here.

He learned from his boneheaded mistakes and has a guy to help with clock management / analytics. I still don’t like how they handled GT last year passing on fg’s. He got desperate and GT forced him into playing more aggressive than we should have
GT or the end of the Cuse game. He just doesn't have common sense with football when the pressure is on. I can't even relate to not having it. He has been coaching almost 30 years. He is never going to be that coach, ever. It's a deserved rep. He has other good qualities as a HC, but he is never going to be that coach. You just hope his talent acquisition that he is great at, wins out. This new era of NIL has hurt that, even.

Then over corrected with taking that late field goal against cuse
