2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

I agree with you. However Calvin Russell is also extremely important for obvious reasons.

Honestly, there are at least 5 WR’s I’d take over Russell but he’d be a nice grab from a perception standpoint bare minimum. Talented, but he is extremely raw, and there are quite a few guys from an instant impact standpoint physically and from a pure WR standpoint that I’d choose over him.

Anyone want to wager against me where he ends up haha. This is the worst kept secret in South Florida other than Neiman reclassing to 27 and bagging up here haha.

I'm not as optimistic at WR as some. Today's not the day for that but we need to up our game and stop acting like the Green Bay Packers when it comes to premium WR's hahah.
why are you not optimistic? What WR did we not get last year that would have helped the #1 offense in the country at all?

people complained all offseason last year about WR and we had a top 5 WR room in the country

most importantly, WR's have produced in Dawsons offense every single year he's been a playcaller - so why do people magically believe that with the best QB, OL, and RB rooms in the conference and several young talented WR's that we recruited (similar to X, George, Horton) that we will somehow field a bunch of WR's that don't know how to catch a football?

not speaking to you directly with this next bit but knowing that a good portion of people on here were hoping X hit the portal last offseason and now are somehow worried about WR when he's gone is pure gold

I'm referring to the 26 recruiting board not the current roster.

Where do you see this at?
247 on their national rankings… Jackson dropped from #1 to #3 while cooper went from 28 to 34.

Funny enough USC got two kids bumped into the top ten with their QB leaning prospect also in there and cruising down a lot of them saw nice healthy bumps to their national rankings

I know and I agree with all that but I chose him specifically because he's a local 5 star and a legacy at a position where we usually don't land local 5 stars. So yes it would be important in terms of perception and would also revive a local pipeline(Northwestern). Honestly, which of those other 5 WR who you prefer do we really have a legitimate chance with? I'm actually in the camp who believes we can and are in a good position to flip Tristen Keys but outside of that then who? Russell is local and a legacy. Yes he is raw but KB can and will develop him. We aren't going to go from where we are to where OSU is in WR recruiting in one off season. So let's concentrate on targets that are winnable to start then go from there.

I think we take 4 WRs this cycle and the following would be an elite haul

Calvin Russell
Tristen Keys
Jasen Lopez
Somourian Wingo[/QUOTE]

We are going to get 2 of our top 3 DT targets IMO. I'm not really sure where we stand with DE. I think Heatherman and his scheme will determine some mid season new names to pop up at DE.
Lamar Brown, James Johnson, and Tomuhini Topui I'd assume are our top 3 at DT. I hope USC falls flat on their face and we stay on all those poly kids they got...

That would be a great wr haul. But I'd get 5 or maybe even more. We have 6 WRs I think returning for next season.

Obviously lose Daniels, Marion, and Tony Johnson. And I don't see Ray Ray stocking around.

But if we got those 4 and another 1-2, I don't think there could really be any complaints
