Based on everything I am hearing, he will not be back this season. Hamate injuries typically never end well and even if it isn't broken you usually need weeks to not only feel better but get back into the feel of hitting. Moreover I fear Todd Hudson suffered a similar fate in yesterday's game. Will keep y'all posted as I find out more.

Injuries are a part of the game, but Canes baseball sure seems to have a disproportionate share to key players every year.

Not that we were going anywhere this year, but I feel for the players hurt. Best of luck to them in their recoveries.

Williams was having a decent season, leading the team in almost every offensive category, sucks to see him go down when he was so hot..

Time for the freshman to get some playing time and if we do make a run maybe Williams will be back for any conference playoff games.

Williams was out hottest hitter and only helped Cuvet with his resurgence at the plate.
That being said, can we trade for a power hitter and offer future considerations in exchange?
We are out of options for position players that can at least hit their weight.

Unfortunate. Williams was the only hitter to sniff all-ACC honors this season (as of now, Cuvet could turn it on)

Miami's best lineup may need to include Taveras as DH with Marsh in RF. But if there is some injury precluding Marsh from playing his position then I guess we don't have that luxury.

Update on Williams:

He's going to try and play through it, don't know wether that means surgery after the season or whatnot. But he's going to try and play as early as this weekend with quite a large pad on his hand/wrist. I'd tamper your expectations for him because these injuries are typically the ones that wreck your swing even if it's unconscious, but I absolutely love the fact he's doing this for the team

Update on Hudson:

He's done for the year, Marsh and Taveras are getting looks at first during practice right now. I like this move alot.

What about Johnson at 1B?
Give him some at bats as well.
I thought Marsh was an OF? He had never played in the field this season.

Marsh was an OF/DH all fall and spring, but had 1B time back at Penn State. I think they want to keep Johnson available to catch if needed

Pretty Positive bump here, both Dwill and Hudson took live at-bats in scrimmages today. If we can get them back it would be absolutely huge for this lineup.

Still want to make it clear that their return isn't for certain, hamates are so flukey it's hard to garuntee anything with the bat. Figured the positive news at least warranted an update

Hamate & lunate injury is what derailed my baseball career as a hitter. Had to convert to a PO to keep playing because I just couldn't swing it like I used to. I lost like 10-15 mph on my exit velo.

Still don't have any ROM in my left wrist and any almost usage is painful. Coming up on 13 years out now.

Kudos to him if he ever comes back from it
