CJ Carr is well regarded by college and NFL guys alike. Austin Simmons will start for Mizzou this year and was the starter ahead of Trinidad Chambliss last year.

That said, there haven’t been many quarterbacks who have reclassified up at all. That is more so a basketball thing because birthdates matter more when it comes to being eligible for the draft. Dozens and dozens of quarterbacks have reclassified down a year to get extra physical development relative to their peers, and it has been a mixed bag in terms of results. Definitely not a surefire solution.

The difference between Cypher, Julian Lewis, CJ Carr, Simmons, and others compared to Ewers, is that they weren’t delusional.

Ewers missed 6 out of his 14 junior year games, flipped from Texas to OSU at the end of that season, reclassified up, and went to Ohio State with the mindset that he was so good he could miss spring practice, miss summer workouts, and beat out CJ Stroud who spent the prior year behind Justin Fields as well as beat out freshman early enrollee Kyler McCord who spent his HS years being Marvin Harrison Jr’s quarterback.

Ohio State didn’t even want him to reclassify up. Ewers was also reclassifying back to his original grade since he was held back; he wasn’t skipping a grade like Austin Simmons. CJ Carr was actually held back twice, so he needed to reclassify up because he turned 19 before what would have been his senior HS season; making him ineligible to participate altogether. But again—he wasn’t delusional going into the process.

Cypher will have his cousin with him, and possibly one/two other teammates, so that makes for a strong support system going into a college environment early. We aren’t asking him to be our starter during his first two years here.

Not sure when his birthday is however this 2022 article illustrates that 2028 is his original class so he is just going back to where he is supposed to be.

I'm like 99% sure CJ Carr didn't reclassify. Austin Simmons also really struggled when he finally got a chance to start.

That's completely different... Also from everything I have read he played 4 years in high school. If he reclassified it was early in his high school career and it's not public knowledge.

And there is a decent chance that another year dominating HS kids wouldn’t have mattered. You are putting too much weight on that.

Simmons has spent three seasons at Ole Miss (has his degree already), sat behind an NFL starting quarterback, played under Lane Kiffin, and the new 5 for 5 rule will give him three more years of college eligibility. If he was ever going to hit, he’ll hit at Mizzou with their ridiculous run game to support him. If he’s not that guy, he was never going to be that guy.

Jake Garcia got held back, backed up Matt Coral as a freshman, started all 3 years of HS football — including in two different states, attended four different schools including two in one season, and is now finishing his career at Furman where he will turn 25 during the middle of the season. He had all the touchdowns, all the passing attempts, faced different defenses with different offensive coordinators in HS and then in college. In the end, none of that **** mattered.

Well like 99.5% of all high school QBs follow that traditional 4 year plan in high school, so there is literally a ton of data behind it.

Well you are arguing against the field... There are countless 5 and 4 star blue chip high school QBs who are smart AF and can easily reclassify but don't. You just rarely ever see it and the only somewhat success story I can think of is Quinn Ewers.

I was a big fan of Rodney Scott’s BBQ on Metropolitan but it recently closed down with Scott’s financial backer going through some issues.

CJ played for his JV team as a FR if I remember correctly and 3 years as a varsity starter. I know I watched his Hudl as a SR in 23.

From my understanding, kids are held back in 8th grade before high school, at least that's the way all the top baseball prospects did at my school....then varsity as a "freshman" and they played their 4 years consecutively

It is beyond common to drop out of middle school then go to an “academy” then go to HS 1-2 years later than they would normally.

You get freshman that are

I noticed the ga Te commit Jaxon is back on the top target list . That just showed up recently and prior to Cartwright commiting to Oregon . Its almost like we stop pushing for him . Wonder if we have a real chance for him ? Next one July 1 Evans makes his decision . He went from top target to interested on Inside the u . Jacobs is clearly our main focus . We need a clutch kicker . We haven’t had one in two years . Every time I think of that missed kick in the championship game my blood pressure goes up . That or or that lazy *** Whiff block by our te . The real question will itje next commit be. 27 cllass or 28 to 2030 😂
