Dennis Dodd on Miami, Cam Ward and NIL

At least it is being discussed out in the open, but doesn’t it feel like there is a lot more discussion about how UM uses NIL than any other school? Maybe I am biased but I still get the feeling that college football thinks UM is buying wins, while UGA and Bama are not, or at least I’ve never read an article about the strength of the Bama NIL program.

OSU seems to be only other program which has NIL chatter around it.

it does feel that way, although you're starting to see some of the more recruiting-savvy media outlets get wise to it. one of the ON3 guys on their miami/UF postgame went off on the "miami just buys recruits" line and was basically like, "okay, it's legal, sounds like everyone else needs to buy better" lol

That will absolutely be the narrative that we paid for it as if OSU or UGA didn’t. I think it’s because we got high profile transfers compared to those two schools.

The media doesn’t really acknowledge those teams pay for transfers AND high school recruits too.

OSU got Jeremiah smith because they paid him but you won’t hear that by the media.

Booger McFarland quipped before the game started that they (UM) got the best roster money could buy and I took that as a dig.

That's because everyone knows how strong and well established Bama, Clemson, and GA's pay for players was long before NIL.

Would love to nail this down.

I make it a point never to listen to what a grown a$$ man named Booger says

Booger hates that we are getting good. Dude gargles so much SEC **** it's concerning

I read the article and didn’t get any “best money can buy” vibes. Dodd is merely stating this is the state of college football and right now Miami has properly leveraged the rules.

For those who follow and care about CFB it’s all well known. I don’t doubt that prior years Caleb Williams and Bryce Young were Scrooge McDuck’ing their NIL dollars.

Also the current state of NIL and portal has been reported to be a major reason why Saban retired and a well established HC, Chip Kelly took a demotion and pay cut to be a coordinator at Ohio St.

In short I don’t believe anyone is screaming Miami is buying their way back and any thought of such is inferiority complex / guilty conscious and not Swag.

Go Canes!

I agree with you.

No I don’t think you’re biased. I get the same sense. It’s innocently mentioned in relation to other teams but there’s definitely a different tone when the NIL subject is paired with Miami in a story.

Not sure if anyone else saw it but in ESPN’s, yeah I know, weekend wrap up the guy writes something along the lines of Miami bankrupts LifeWallet for their team.
