Delaney will continue to play. 'Doing a good job'

i never see our corners ever jam a receiver, also if i was coach i would put the best talent on the field, jhavante dean could be at saftey trajan would start maleek would be starting put the best athletes on the field and let them figure it out need speed and playmaking ability and also we need ability to lock onto the man in your area even if you are playing zone,

Bruh they said Dean isn't physical enough and you want to put him at safety???

yeah I was with him until I read that.

Here's what happened on the TD that most people probably thought was Delaney's fault.

Delaney is lined-up with inside leverage on the #1 . He's giving up the outside. He's likely told to do this because we saw all of our CB's do this a handful of times during the game.

The #1 and #2 WR's go vertical. Delaney lets his WR got outside of him and down the sideline.

The LB carries the #2 WR vertical. Redwine rolls over and covers the #2 WR as well. Carter was likely supposed to roll over the top of Delaney and cover that vertical route from #1 but instead he stayed over the top of #2 . (which is why we have 3 guys covering #2 and nobody covering #1 )

That TD is on Carter.

I'm not ready to rag on Delaney just yet, not until we figure out WTF we're doing on defense.

It was obvious watching that play that it was a blown assignment. Delaney let his man go because he clearly thought a safety was going to pick his man up. There were blown assignments and miscommunication in the secondary all game long. It would be reasonable to attribute a good part of that to the layoff, lack of practice, not being in football shape physically or mentally and so on.

The big question to me is what is the ceiling of this unit when they do gel and get on the same page. These guys will never be confused with the 2001-2003 units but maybe just maybe they can improve over the course of the season. I think Diaz will keep mixing up his personnel groupings until he finds what can be the most effective. How effective that will be is anybody's guess at this point.

After all the panic has settled, I can't help but to feel that once the corners and safeties get a little bit more comfortable in the system the results will follow. As stated, big scoring plays were given up on blown assignments. I would say though that I wouldn't mind seeing defenders lining up in the same area code as the slot receiver at least some of the time.
I would think if Bandy continues to play well Diaz will open up the nickel package a bit more or at least rotate those who are struggling. I think we will have a good test in a sneaky creative team in Duke this week and will have a much better feel for what this team is all about this year

Knowles is a safety and dean is a corner.
