This coaching staff has warts on top of their warts and there are many issues all over the board but the biggest problem with this team (that i can see) has been stopping the run and putting pressure on the QB. With that being said this staff has whiffed 3 years in a row on top tier DT talent.

With that being said I don't see it getting any better in 2015 or 2016? Where are the stud DT recruits in this upcoming class? This sh$t aint getting any better as long as we have Hertalou and Wyche prancing out there. 4 years later and we still don't have a dominant DT and that is inexcusable IMHO. You would think these guys would be lining DTs up left and right and if I'm not mistaken our best DT recruit is some 3 star jag ????

Under Butch, Stoops, etc. jenkins, moten, wyche, and heautrlou will develop well.

we are d0gsh1t in the trenches point blank. it doesnt matter how much athletes we can recruit. until we are solid in the trenches we will be mediocre. people can ***** all you want about our cornerbacks but we basically make the opposing quarterback look like bama is his offensive line

I'm laughing at all of the idiots on here who were touting #Wyche and Woatalou as the saviors of our DL, which they argued was indicative of Al Golden's ability to recruit DTs and recruit in general.

They won't show themselves but they know exactly who they are.

It is the scheme. How many times does it have to be said. Here's another news flash. Firing D'Onofrio and Franklin won't change anything either.

Theu852 is spot on. We are getting dominated at the point of attack. Could a different set of coaches get more out of the same players...probably..but these kids are not going to take us back to the promise land. When UVA and Pitts DL dominates our O Line it is inexcusable. Those kids were all 3 Star jags for the most part if that.

If you think about every single loss this season it was because we couldn't stop the run. We got owned at the point of attack. GT, Nebraska, F$U all rammed the ball down our throat. Dalvin Cook single handedly beat us in the second half.

Wyche
Woatelou
Kamalu
Jenkins
Moten
Moore
King
Hamilton

Are any of these guys better than O. Pierre?

The lack of technique by our DTs is STUNNING. Can some one please tell them that patty cake is not a useful skill set to avoid getting pancaked and/or sealed on run downs.

Name the last guy we had who had the skill set to split a double team?

For 100th time the two gap system is based on controlling an area and this requires big strong massive human beings whom aren't generally going to be ranked higher than 3* because they are space eaters. Teams ( Bama, Miss St, Wisc,) that run the 3-4 two gap system don't have many if any 4 and 5 star DT's or NT's. Wisconsin just took a 3* NT from American Somoa and another 3* Polynesian player from California ( an Wisconsin has a Top 3 overall Defense)

So UM's committ Ryan Fines will be fine at UM as a NT. Wyche needs to be coached up from a techinque and discpline stand point as well as a year in a S&C program an he will be ok next year.

UM does need better SDE/DT's to set the edge by controling the Off Tackles , we were caught slanting to flow alot this year rather than controling the flow with a straight ahead push.

As for whom UM has a legit shot at landing at NT/DT for 2015 : Kendrick Norton, David Ryslik ( #1 DT/NT/DE in New Jersey), Javier Edwards ( NT in Houston, TX), and SDE/DT Josh Nijman (Prep from Jersey).

To be honest its the scheme and coaching. Elite athletic DTs dont come around all the time.

Elite DT posseses quickness to go with that power. Then those physical gifts are supplemented with technique and the icing is mentality.

This scheme doesn't hinge on penetration so it makes average kids look worse. Plenty of teams recruit what in actuality are average kids but the scheme helps mask that. And they become serviceable.

If we get back to a one gap penetrating scheme. Regardless of 3 or 4 lineman. ALL of these kids will look different. ALL.

Even if we recruited an elite DT, they would look like ****. There isn't a single elite DT that would want to play in this scheme. It's not that hard to understand.

We just got an elite DE in Thomas. We ask him to engage OL, who are 60 LBs bigger then him. He looked mediocre while other FR less talented across the country were making plays.

Don't need any. New defensive coordinator Al Groh is going to run an 0-7 scheme next season. An emphasis will be placed on LB speed.

Remember when Valentine admitted he put on Miami's film and "didn't want to spend 3 years lining up like a dog taking a shlt" ?

The secret is out. If you're a DL - forget DT - why would you come here? You wanna squat every play then play ****y slaps and not rush the QB? Go to some SEC school and play on a savage defense that attacks. I don't blame them, and I think less of any DL, or recruit for that matter, that chooses to come here and play for Golden.

I like Moten and Jenkins seemed like a nice backup, the rest might as well be trash bags full of grass clippings.

This is why I want UM to hire Dave Aranda. But hey that has ben rehashed a thousand times. But with a slight philosophy change and change in DC/postion coaching our defense could use the current players in a 3-4 gap control to be dominant.
