Defensive Tackle Weight

Deja Vu

Let's be honest. Do we ever really have any new discussions on here? The names change though.

Of the 5 DT's this staff has signed this offseason, (3 Portal and 2 High School) who do you believe won't play well?

Simeon Barrow RSR 6-3 300
C.J. Clark RSR 6-3 305
Marley Cook RSR 6-2 298
Justin Scott FR 6-4 310
Artavius Jones FR 6-4 305
I think Jones will be the best of the group maybe not this season. They should be better but I want to see it

We had this exact same discussion last year. We were going to get run over because we didn’t have huge defensive tackles. Then the football started and run defense was the best thing our team did.
Miami shutdown offensive juggernauts BCU, Miami-OH, Texas A&M, and Temple.

Run D vs. teams with no pulse on O:
BC 5.5ypc 2 TDs
Rutgers 4.6ypc 3 TDs
UVA 3.1ypc 2 TDs

Run D vs. Meh offenses:
GT 3.7ypc 2 TDs
Clemson 0.9ypc 0 TDs
NCSU 4.0ypc 1 TD

Now look at the Miami run D vs. teams with a pulse:
UNC 5.5ypc 1 TD
L'ville 4.8ypc 2 TDs
FSU 1.8ypc 2 TDs

Should be comparing ourselves to the top 15-25 defenses in College.
In the top 10 defenses 3 mich(#1 Def),
uga(9th) & ucla(10h) had 2 300+ DTs. The others in the top 10 excluding Air Force all had 1 300+ and the other was usually in the 280-295 range

Yeah that’s usually how statistics work. Your numbers are usually really good against bad teams and not as good against good teams.

Now there’s outliers. If you get out to a big lead, you tend to focus more on stopping the big play and you’ll allow an opponent to drain the clock with running plays like the BC game. Or like the Rutgers game where we literally were so short handed on the defensive line that we had to play a three man front with two freshmen.

UNC abused us. Louisville had a good game. Nobody else really did anything. If you consider the average offense averaged 4.5 yards per carry and our defense averaged 3.3 for the season.

But then again Benson ripped off 5per and 2; Travis killed their per carry stats

Bro imagine being so fat, you equal two defensive linemen in football

Like, ****, ride a bike or something

Hate the Gator but actually feel really bad for this kid. How in the world are you that big while playing, practicing, lifting etc? There’s something behind the scenes with that kid. Eating disorder or something.

Boston college running backs averaged under 2 yards per carry against Miami but their quarterback’s numbers inflated their ypc. It works both ways with statistics. It’s why you have to look at entire season body of work. There’s up and down and occasional outliers but over the long haul, the teams that are consistently more good than bad will finish at the top of the statistical charts.

They finished 79th against the run with two 400 pound tackles. Maybe just having big fat guys who can’t play doesn’t really help your defense as much as smaller guys who can.

They're obstacles more than tackles.
