Sort of related, anybody got a good alternative to Game on Paper for advanced stats? A) I’m tired of them having the upside down U like a bunch of toddlers, I don’t really look for clear biases when I’m seeking out statistics, and B) their stats for the NCSU game are completely incorrect.

I’m sure the site being created by two GT grads has nothing to do with either.

As I’ve been saying for a minute, the Pitt game scares the **** out of me because they can play defense. We haven’t shown we can drop 30 on a defense with half a pulse all year. Syracuse and NC State were fun, sure. But those are genuinely pathetic defenses. I said all week before those games if we don’t run up and down the field, there’s no point in even pushing for the playoffs because we’ll get embarrassed.

Pitt ain’t Ohio State by a longshot, but they’re much more SMU/Louisville than they are Cuse/NCSU. If we haven’t figured out how to play offense by next week, we’re gonna be in a dogfight again.

November game and the weather… everything you said plus those two things.

If this game was a month earlier in the season I would agree. However I sense something different about this team now. Everything seems to have come together on both sides of the ball. The offense seems to be on the way to peaking and the defense while having been very good since the beginning is now reaching another level. I think this team has grown and matured from their two earlier losses and is very focused. I don't think this is the same team that lost to Louisville and SMU similar to how the Ohio Taint team that tore through the playoffs last year was not the same team that lost to Michigan in the last game of the regular season. I'm certainly not saying that we will rip through the post season and win the title should we get in. I do think that this team is on a mission and I think we could be very dangerous to the rest of the field should we get in. I don't think this squad will let VT or Pittsburgh stand in their way. I understand that the last few teams we have played were terrible on defense and Pittsburgh has a very good defense but I dont think it will matter. Of course this is just my opinion based on a gut feeling and I could definitely be wrong.

We'll revisit this after next week. I sure hope you're not wrong, but I can't get on board with this just because we played one good game. Remember, the offense sucked in the first half even against Syracuse. Games are 60 minutes long for a reason, and we did wear them down and wound up with an OK performance at the end of the day, but I was ready to hang myself at halftime of that game.

And the first half of NC State wasn't exactly the greatest show on turf either.

But I'm with you, the defense does look insane right now, and the offense is at least trying new things (maybe the Pringle injection is a difference against good teams, maybe running play action and throwing the ball on short-yardage will break a DC's brain because we literally never do that, maybe some of these trick plays will either continue and/or open up other opportunities because defenses are expecting trickery, etc). But Syracuse and NC State are essentially high school teams on defense. Genuinely. They are among the very worst defenses in the entire country, G5 teams included. It's offensive to the word pathetic to only call these defenses pathetic. They're much worse than that.

So, go do it for 2 more weeks. VT should be (better be) a ******* cakewalk. They're almost as bad as the last 2. But Pitt can play defense. If we go drop 38 points on them, average 7+ a play, the defense completely suffocates them, and we win easily, I might get excited for what this team can do in the playoffs, obviously provided we get some help and get in. We shall see.

We should take care of business as long as Carson Beck plays a clean game, I’m counting on the defense to be locked in as usual.

Oh I completely understand your point of view and you make perfect sense. I understand that it was just one game but I am at least somewhat impressed with the way the team has handled themselves since the SMU loss. They could have gone in the tank but credit to them that they did not. Credit to Mario and staff as well for keeping this team together after what was an inexcusable and pathetic showing in Dallas a few weeks ago. It is fact that the last 3 defenses we have faced have been total garbage. The VT defense is a little better than that but not by much and we should brutalize them. The Pittsburgh defense is a different animal as they can play but I have a feeling that this offense has found themselves and that we can score 30+ on them. I do think that this defense will be the foundation that this team stands on and that they are hitting on all cylinders. Bottom line is that this should be a very fun and interesting last two games of the season as they will literally define this season.

I'm with you 100%. I'm going to wait until the Pitt game to decide anything but of course after SMU you had your usual mopes sprinting to the board to be the first one to say we're going to finish the year 6-6, the team's gonna quit, everyone checked out, we're going to lose our last 5 games, Mario lost the team, blah blah blah. Typical ***** crybaby ****, par for the course. But everyone looks to have responded very well thus far. I don't expect that to change this week, VT is genuinely awful. But next week is the one I have circled. I think you can almost go through the motions and beat Cuse and NC State, especially their defenses (our defense sure as **** wasn't checked out last week though, they beat the everloving **** out of Bailey and his boys). But you need to be locked in and efficient on offense to beat Pitt up there. I'm excited to see if we can do it.

Parker Flemings site is good

1. Oklahoma
