Defensive rankings through 6 games

Stanford? Maybe you forgot but both starting corners went out in the 1st quarter.

I did not. read my post. I clearly said 100% or close. People keep expecting X coming back to solve the pass D but it's looking like that's not happening. This is a year long problem from drive 1.

Health in the secondary is a big issue, but I also think we aren't getting nearly as much pressure from the middle of the defense, which is hurting our pass defense. Moten has the only sack from our DTs this year. Can anyone track the difference between the # of pressures from our interior DL (including the DEs kicked inside on the Nascar package) and inside blitzers this year versus last?

The lesson is that when someone misses 6 weeks from an injury, it's gonna take some time to get back into game shape (timing, etc.). The hope is Lucas will be back to his 100% self by ND.

Same issue will happen with Antione and OJF when they come back. Yes, it will be great to have them back, but they won't be there 100% selves when they do.

Look at Bain in 2024 back from injury after missing 4-5 games. Took him a good while to get back up to speed.

IIRC, OJ went out the first drive. May have even been first play from my recollection. In any event, we've been a starter down in the secondary for likely nearly every defensive play this season.

what I am saying is it's more than just a returning CB here. teams have been passing on us since drive 1 against Stanford. OJ went out in drive 1 but when do we start to realize it's more than replacing a CB? We have other good CB and our pass D should be better.

again when does this stop being an excuse? CB hasn't even been the biggest problem. the zones have been bad. LB coverage has been bad. Thornton has been bad. JJ has blown a lot too. Hetherman has been outschemed a lot. he's go to start mixing it up more

What defense loses a starter who is likely a 1st or 2nd round pick and it doesn't affect the secondary and coverage and what the DC intended to do?

I mean, you have to survive and move on. There's nothing Heatherman can do about OJ's injury. But it is a reason for the secondary not being what we expected. You just can't discount that as if it's not a reason.

we are 90th man. stop making excuses. we aren't winning anything if it doesn't immediately improve

LB will always be bad because they arent asked or expected to be good lol.. I dont ever see them looking for work, they are just taught to stand there and be cones.. Thornton was bad in pass coverage in bc with 123 ranked defense on 2 win team, he is doing what he has always done, he was moved to bench but injuries forced him back out there. JJ should only be playing a limited role and asked to thrive in that role like fitzgerald last year but depth issues for him to play more expanded role where he is exposed and will be if he plays too many snaps..

agree. I think we have the players and coaches to get this figured out, but the time is now upon us. Carr will cook us in just over 2 weeks if this doesn't turn around.

I think everyone agrees it needs to improve, drastically but your we were 100% or close game 1 is just wrong.

OJ went out the second snap of the game, CB 1 gone.

CB3 (Slime) was already out

O'Connor was not supposed to play, he was hurt, his mom posted about him trying to give it a go but he was forced into action because of OJ and played about half the snaps and I assume its all he could as Damari got way too many.

Out of the 61 defensive snaps X only played half and was hurt on that punt.

So CB1, 2, and 3 were out before half, had TF Dunnigan starting in his first game, O'connor at 50% and Thornton being forced to play coverage and Bryce out of position, all in week 1. Not close to 100%.

What's your point? It's a reality. If Mensah goes down or Mali, will that not affect the offense? It's not like we lost a 4th stringer. It is entirely unreasonable to expect that you lose a starter, and a good one at that, and that it will have no effect on the defense.

We’re also terrible at tackling. Last I checked we’re in the100’s. Teams ranked that low typically don’t win titles.
