Defensive Holding

I’m sorry for the thread on this but I am hoping someone can answer this.

On the play King was injured, they called defensive holding against Ok st. They called it half the distance to the goal but the downs did not reset. Is this correct or was it missed? is it because it was a half the distance and not a yardage penalty? I honestly do not know.

Defensive holding is a first down regardless. It’s 5 yards and a first down or half the distance and first down.

Because it’s a running play it’s not a auto first down

I wondered the same thing but apparently it’s only a 10 yard penalty or half the distance in this case. NFL is a 5 yard and automatic. I thought both were automatic but did the college change?
