Defensive Coordinators

Dave Arranda has been kickin @ss for several years. I think LSU is paying him. $2mm+ a year

But worthy thread, I’m curious to see who else is out there

Jim Leavitt is a cut above most. I think he’s at Oregon with Mario right now. If Narduzzi ever gets fired at Pitt, he would be a good hire for anybody looking for a DC. Did a really good job — with lesser talent — when he worked at Michigan State.

I think Diaz will eventually get hired by another program to be their head coach. What Richt does after that remains to be seen.

Manny Diaz is a good defensive coordinator and not not elite or perfect by any means. He excels at certain things but definitely have things you constantly question watching his defense. Regardless he’s a whale of an upgrade over what we previously had and with a few tweaks our defense CAN be elite. This is not a post to bash manny so although it’s early I will Acknowledge how we have improved on 3rd down efficiency regardless of the oppenent, even if you take away the Savannah state game we still would be #1 in the country in 3rd down defensive percentage rate which is impressive imo

For real. People keep complaining about it. Mother of god can you imagine how many games we would have lost the past 3 years with our previous guy? Oh god.

The best DCs keep it simple. They aim to take one thing you're great at away from you.

Manny seems determined to inexplicably complicate things.

Manny is Trash...always have been. He thinks he is playing Playstation.

I played High School ball with Kevin Kane now the Defensive Coordinator at SMU. He is 34 years old and was one of the best players and smartest football players I ever saw play. He didn't have the best speed but knew where the ball was going at the snap and made plays all day long. He started 3 years at Inside LB for KU when Mangino was at the helm and since then has rose up the ranks quickly. Here is a nice article.

He runs a 4-3 attack style defense. The only problem I see if he is from KCMO and has coached mostly in the Midwest. LB coach at KU, DC at NIU and now at SMU.

He will probably be a head coach at some point but would absolutely love to have him. He is extremely smart and not gimmicky.

For the SMU defense, the new mentality under coordinator Kevin Kane is 'attack'

Kevin Kane miked up at SMU practice

The SSU game is going to slant our ranking all season long. The defense played like garbage for a while against Toledo.

Last drive of the second quarter and the majority of the 3rd quarter. Other than that they were pretty dominant in that game including finishing the 4th quarter with -9 yards given up.

Just like vs LSU 2-15 given up on 3rd down
11-24 140 yards passing
41 Rushing attempts 156 yards 3.8

I think It’s ingenious to say the stats is slanted only because of the Savannah state game honestly. Even if you take away the Savannah state game Miami would still be #1 in 3rd down conversions allowed

Very Good too Excellent DCs don't get fired at such an Alarming rate....Personally...(coming from a family of Def coaching backrounds)....I think there's a high level of stubborness on Diaz's part....

Getting fired once is an alarming rate?
