Defensive alignment/theory video

Why do the LB's have to be special?
In the Tite front they're often unblocked.
It's harder to play LB in our current scheme.

It's easy to play LB in the Tite front.
There's technically only ONE interior gap that's 'open' (the A-gap).
And the other open gap is the strong-side C-gap, which is occupied by both the Mike LB and the Nickel\Striker.
My LB's love playing in the Tite front because the reads are quick and easy, especially for the Mike.

Clemson got fat off this D, and they have some unatheltic lbs to run it because it keeps things really simple for them..

We just dont recruit the position well at all, you cant be small and slow and start at miami but thats where we are at right now.. plus we dont seem to teach fundamentals at all..

Yep, tite fronts. Clemson does it. Bama does it. I think UGA does it, etc. The big boys have been doing it for some time now and you need the horses to run it. We don't have those horses in our front 7.
We ran tite a few times against UVA.

There's like 20 threads about the defense, when our biggest problem is the offense. We held UVA to their lowest yardage total of the year. We lost because we couldn't move the ball at all against an awful defense in the first half and couldn't kick a chip shot.

MSU we got blown out because the offense gave them 4 (FOUR!) turnovers. Did we win without those? I don't know, but we're leading into the 4th quarter.
Strong point.

In today's game a YUUUGE part of your defense is your offense staying on the field controlling the ball.

The best part of the flavor of the month offense "schemes" is that the elite teams incorporated those elements while never straying away from being able to power run at will.

I can only imagine the wet dreams opposing Offendive Coordinators have game planning for Msnny’s Defense.
identified the safety blitzing from 15 yards up the middle and dropped a pass to spot vacated by the safety. Or put Jennings on any RB, or just match up their TE's on our linebackers :

I can't remember who did the break down of the Alabama game I saw, but it showed numerous times, how we would drop a defensive end into a zone coverage, and there was nobody to cover on that entire side. Literally meant we were playing 10 on 11. Reminded me of when my youngest played soccer, they were basically told to stand in a certain area and stay there.

So, Manny got his start coaching youth soccer?

I don’t think it’s the scheme so much as the alignment. I assumed it’s coached that way cuz I never seen anybody yelling on the sideline but watch how Miami aligns vs TEs, Bunches, trips, etc. Many times we are out flanked from the snap and we know we don’t have the LBs to fight through trash and scrape to make up for it.

Even that goal line shot, who leaves the A gap wide open like that. **** is weird. And if the upperclassman are lining up incorrectly, why not play the younger players

I remember seeing some Odd front stuff but I don't recall seeing Odd Tite.
I'd be surprised. I've NEVER seen us use Tite.

Was it in the first quarter?
I wanna see.
Angle is tough, but to me it looks like the second play of the game our ends are on the inside eye of the tackles.

But Zach McCloud is one of those ends.

I hate Manny’s defense. Even as a DC he got roasted against better/smarter coaches with less talent.

His philosophy is get penetration at all costs, and see what happens. This is why teams run all over us, especially teams that aren’t good running the ball.

I know it’s NFL, and it helps having Donald and Ramsey, but for the schematic novices out there, start this video about the 8min mark, and you will have a much better understanding on the strategy of defensive alignment.

hate to say but colleges and even high schools at times run more complex defenses compared to the stuff nfl defenses run

thats not even my words, if you happen to follow coach vass on twitter, you would have read that already

staley is just the first guy who came out running this type of defense.

we could easily run it with a nt (that we dont recruit)

Defense has outplayed the offense in 3 of the 4 games. Fact.

And honestly, in the 4th (Bama), they probably both get an F.

Defense is a problem. Offense is a goddamned catastrophe.

I'm starting to believe Manny's defense is affecting our offenses ability to run the ball. The offense practices against this unstructured defense that is basically a free for all. Then when they play teams that are gap sound against the run the OLine struggles because they aren't sure who to block.

That's not who I would put in a 4i. 😂
But I'm just a high school guy. What do I know?

I would sub in light DT's (or heavy DE's) in that spot. (i.e. Roberts or Taylor) Then put a light\athletic DE at the weak-side apex defender (OLB) spot. (Aranda would do this @ LSU)
With that personnel you can easily slide into an 'even' front on the very next play if you want to, without having to change personnel.

I'm not crazy about the defense, but I expected this. The offense, however, is extremely disappointing.
