Richt has made it a habit of hiring the wrong defensive coordinators, hanging onto them too long, and ultimately firing them. This has prevented him from winning National Championships. Based on our defensive debacles the past few years(D'Onofrio), we need a much stronger defense in order to get to the mountain top.

Couldn't agree more. Football fans in general don't put enough stock into Defense's. Can't win a ship without having a good Defense in any sport.

Not sure how you say Todd Grantham and Jeremy Pruitt weren't good hires. Both very well respected coordinators.

Grantham was suspect in '12. That was that defense that had like 10 Pro's on it that were all draft eligible.

That Jarvis Hayes, John Jenkins, Ogletree, Shaun Williams, Bacarri Rambo defense was pretty **** bad throughout the year and that is most certainly a blight on his resume.

Look at Richt's defensive history over the past 15 years. By the way, he and Pruitt were at odds regularly. Not the best of friends!

Richt is extremely loyal to his staff and of which ultimately may have cost him his job at Georgia. He pays a lot more attention to the offensive side, "His Love", than to the defensive side of the ball. I hope he has learnt from this, and most importantly that he understands the defensive struggles we have had over the past few years. He uses the 3 4 a lot, which as we know has not worked for us. We need a 4 3 balling ball hawking DC that cuts our kids loose, pounds on quarterbacks on every play and whereby our kids only have to cover 20-30 yards rather than 100 like dumb A..s D'Onofrio used to make us. I have followed Richt's career at Georgia over the years and understand his tendencies and weaknesses.

Michael Barrow for DC Baby!! I told him this when I saw him on Randy Shannon's staff.

Dude is a Cane for life, a baller and someone that understands what we need to do defensively today. Fire the rest of the fu.....g Defensive Staff and let Barrow pick his own defensive coaches.

I think I would like to see Mike get a little more coordinating experience than just that year at Homestead High School ten years ago.

I mean, if you call #19 in the country in ppg suspect then I guess. Given the players on the roster I see what you mean. Still better than us being in the 80s and below in that category every year.

PPG stat is overrated and not indicative of what type of defense you have. D'Onofrio played that game for 4 years. Give up 500 yards per game but less than 20 points. Give me an overall top 10 National Defense, with the offense we are going to have, and WE BE CELEBRATING in a championship game every year baby!! Ala Alabama!

It think that defense under performed, it was loaded with talent.

They got the ball pounded down their throats in the SEC title game, Bama rushed for 350 yards.

That rush defense was weak all season. Georgia was dealing a house of cards. It was somewhat remarkable they held on as long as they did. The pass defense was poor but not quite as bad as the rush defense.

Florida, in particular, often mauled Georgia in the trenches when it didn't look logical entering the game. Last season Florida bullied Georgia for more than 400 yards on the ground as an 11 point underdog. If anything slowly contributed to Richt falling out of favor, it was those Florida games and the physical pecking order. Then Georgia generally weakened on defense for the remainder of the season.

Once again, Defense has not been Richt's strength during his career. People don't learn by the things they do right, they learn from the things they do wrong. Hopefully Richt's Georgia firing, and the root causes of it, among one being weak defenses, could have taught him well. I just don't know if he has or will have time to reflect upon this in such a short period of time between jobs. I've also met him, Saban, Miles and others, and his personality strikes me as the weakest of the group. He is a **** of a nice guy though. Very "soft spoken".

**** we may have been in the thick of things had we had a decent defense over the past few years. If we have had a top ten defense this past year, we could have very well been 10-2 or may be even better.

Hey, we agree on something.

For as much talent as UGA has had at DL, they have been destroyed and pushed around way too much in big games.

Obviously that is something Richt needs to address in his DC, DL, and S&C hires.

This area is where I am most skeptical about the hiring of Richt.
Hopefully he hires the right guy and he recruits so well it does not matter much who is calling the defense.

If a team is to compete for championships, the defense needs to be in the top 10, in my opinion....

Much more difficult to win big games if you don't have a stout defense....

The DC hire will be quite important - hopefully we get someone who has a good plan and will be aggressive....

I totally agree. I am also skeptical and concerned in this area, specially when Richt mentions that he wants to focus more on QB's and Offense, He will have to prove me wrong. Richt's defenses at UGA were historically underachieving. Look at what an inferior UF offense with Treon Harris at the helm did to them this year! Also and conversely look at what FSU did to UF's offense this year as well. Richt needs to look at FSU's defense from this year and emulate the **** out of them. It works!!!

Richt's defenses have never made my toes tingle. Too soft!!
