Defense Tonight

Don't see how anybody blames Dawson for last night. 🤔
I don't blame Dawson overall but have 2 criticisms for him that did play a part in the outcome of this game. #1 is 67 yards of offense in the first half by being way too predictable. #2 is refusing to run outside zone after seeing a lot of success with it. I thought his 1st half was abysmal and his 2nd half was solid.

This D left their blood and guts on the field every game. For that I feel great. That was fun. Fletch came alive this year. Went from looking like a deer on ice to a primevil **** who couldn't miss a hole. Hope he returns. Understand if he doesn't. Loved dominating teams. We finished number 2 with some big flaws. Not a bad gig. We got to watch 16 games of football in one season. How beautiful. Came up short to an excellent, undefeated team. Hats off to them. Let's get our team ready for next year.

Fellas our offense outscored Indiana's offense

Our special teams unit lost us this game - was Baumam the worst part of that unit tonight - yes

But Indiana was getting close all game on our punts - moreso than even is usual with Joyce’s punting style - special teams coaches didn’t address it to speed up the process

You don’t win championship games giving up special teams TDs - just doesn’t happen

Trumpycane thinks the D played an almost perfect game

Held a team averaging 42 to 20

Heisman winner was 16/27 for 187

Only issue was the tackling

Mesidor and Bain will truly be missed
Tinman64 wonders why heatherman hasn’t punched dawson in the Mouth for being inept at times

Only criticism I’ll give the defense is the coaching.

Leaving Oconnor on an island with 80 for those jump balls.

Putting lightfoot over the guard with those light boxes on those third downs. They were targeting that during the whole first half.

There were a couple times Indiana had numbers outside. First time all year I can remember Miami being confused in the secondary pre snap like that.
And he should've called time out before that Mendoza TD run.

We can criticize the 3rd & 13 that turned into 3rd & 8 and we allowed them to run for a 1st down which turned into a TD.

That and the soft coverage to start the game.

Otherwise played well enough.
Same drive as a bull**** PI call gave them a first on another third down

Because we had 3 or 4 3-and-outs in the first half, one of which was 3 straight passes. Did Mali even have a touch in the first half? He was way underutilized. Had a week and a half to scheme him open from the start and couldn't do it.

Buddy, they played hard.

But we didn’t get a single stop in the 4th quarter. Our offense kept scoring to keep us in the game and we could never get the stop we needed.

In what world is that an A?

Defense wasn’t why we lost 1 game this season.

Awful post.

They probably get points? Their previous 3 drives, they ran 11 plays and netted SIX yards. So miss me with the probably got points.

But I’ll humor you, let’s say they get 3. Well, the TD got them 7. So take 4 from them, how many are we down at the end of the game? We need a FG to win, not a TD.
I realized I did a **** job explaining this. Basically after that blocked kick and we went down 17-7, I feel like our offensive philosophy changed. We were playing with more tempo and it was working. It was needed in that situation and we executed it well. Marched right down the field to make the game 17-14. It sent a message that we’re not quitting and we have athletes on offense who are better.

Cignetti going for it on 4th & 5 wasn’t because he didn’t trust his kicker, and it wasn’t because analytics said for him to go. He did NOT want to give us the ball back in a one score game after we made it 17-14. Unfortunately those two 4th and 5 conversions were well executed and yeah..we know what happened after that.

So yes, the block punt sucked. But I do think it ignited our offense in a positive way so I don’t look at it so negatively I suppose. Idk lol

Did their job but failed when it was most important.
Giving up two 4th and longs is unbelievable to me.
Indiana wanted it more and that’s why they won.
If you believe that, you weren't paying attention.

Indiana made fewer mistakes, that's why they won.

From the Herald:

Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson not getting creative enough until the second half. He had several excellent calls after halftime, including the shovel pass to Malachi Toney for a 22-yard touchdown that pulled Miami to within 24-21. But Dawson’s play-calling in the first half was uninspired, drawing the ire of ESPN analyst and legendary coach Nick Saban.

“Miami needs more diversity; spread the ball around more,” Saban implored Dawson at halftime. “On third-and-1, take a shot. You’ve got to do what they think you’re not going to do. Don’t be so conservative. Throw caution to the wind in a game like this.”

Why in the world would he? Him, Lucas, and Damari Brown should be one of the best CB groups in CFB next season with Fitzgerald probably taking over as the nickel.
Damari Brown = LOL

Very good when he's on the field .... which is basically never.
