Defense Tonight

Inability to get off the field in crucial 3rd and 4th downs was devastating.

I don’t expect perfection. Defense, for most part, played well. I just wanted them to give us the opportunity to win on the final possession and they did. Offense failed on the final drive. I can’t credit Indy’s defense for holding UM out of the end zone as they were gifting Miami 20 yards at a time at the end. if Beck is a better QB, we are at the Indy 25 yard line with 40 seconds to go to win a championship.

Defense played a **** of a game all things considered. We knew they would hit some back shoulders on us. Would have liked to play more press in the 1st half but im sure Lucas being out had us play it safer. Offense was awful in the 1st half and special teams cost us 10 points. Defense played a championship level game. Offense was good after the halftime adjustments but left the defense hanging in the 1st half.
Defense wasn't the reason we lost (Special Teams was) but it wasn't a championship level game - we gave up a lot of critical rushing yds.

Unfortunately, we lose #3&#4. I don't know how you recover from those 2 leaving.
Justin Scott becomes a monster.
Xavier Lucas and OJ Frederique might be the best set of CB's in the country next year.
Get Damon Wilson in the portal

The offense should be better next year with Mensah, overall better WR's, and a crazy good RB room.

New stars will emerge. It's rough to see Bain and Mesidor go but we'll have new elite players next season.

Back shoulder throw is all he has that’s good. Chambliss looked way better imo
Chambliss can play off schedule, he has much more of the actual physical talent needed to survive as he develops as an NFL passer. That's the issue with Mendoza. He played in an offense that is spammy as ****, it won't translate to the NFL and unlike these other QBs, he won't be able to make plays by being athletic or by having superlative physical talent(ala Cam Ward). Most of these young QBs have to survive their first couple of years and make just enough plays to remain a viable starter. Once they put it together and bloom, that's when you have a legit QB.

They were 58% on 3rd down coming in. Literally the highest in history and they went 6 for 16 tonight. Defense played their *** off down their best CB for half. Brown out and I think OJ went out again in the 2nd half. If you told me before the game we held their offense to 20 I would have told you we would be celebrating #6. Instead our special teams ****ed us.
Except this game 20 was to much

Defense was amazing. Whenever you lose though you keep replaying certain plays in your head and keep wondering “what if”. One of those plays for me was that Defensive offsides in the first half. If not for that, they end up punting but instead they converted on the next play and eventually scored a TD. If you’re a player, those are the moments you probably replay over and over again in your head.

He’s lived on that under thrown tucked pass

Becker with two incredible grabs to bail out the heisman trophy winner… take those two grabs away and it’s very Vinny T atrocious game
I was expecting to see some amazing play, but it became evident they didn’t think they could protect him or didn’t trust him to make many throw outside of those.

Trumpycane thinks the D played an almost perfect game

Held a team averaging 42 to 20

Heisman winner was 16/27 for 187

Only issue was the tackling

Mesidor and Bain will truly be missed
My only complaint was the off coverage in the first half. I know Lucas was out but you got to get up tight and contest and make the windows smaller. 2nd half was how we should have played the entire game.

Why in the world would he? Him, Lucas, and Damari Brown should be one of the best CB groups in CFB next season with Fitzgerald probably taking over as the nickel.
We're not taking a kid who had 6 INT's at Free Safety and moving him to Nickel. He doesn't even have the skill-set for that position. Omar Thornton will take over the Nickel position.

The only real disapointement I have is why on earth they kept leaving OConnor on the field on Becker instead of having OJ/Lucas on field together. OJ was great today and then taken off.

Also that QB draw was SO ******* OBVIOUS. I called it before it happened.
Heatherman said after the game they k ew it was going to be the call. They signaled in from the sideline but not everyone got the word. He said he should have called a timeout

Awful post.

They probably get points? Their previous 3 drives, they ran 11 plays and netted SIX yards. So miss me with the probably got points.

But I’ll humor you, let’s say they get 3. Well, the TD got them 7. So take 4 from them, how many are we down at the end of the game? We need a FG to win, not a TD.
I know what you’re saying but our defense was beginning to look gassed towards the end there. They were on the field the majority of the game and played excellent, but those two 4th and 5’s given up were pivotal. That blocked punt changed our offensive philosophy and actually sort of jump started us to be a little more aggressive than we had been playing. And to be honest, I don’t know if being down by 6, 3, or 1 on our last drive would have resulted in anything different. Beck and Davis aren’t guys I trust with the game on the line.
