This post is not meant to pile on Beck but I wanted to see if anyone else agree with what my eyes saw over the course of the season.

Looking back over the course of the season, he under threw a lot of deep balls. When I look at his Georgia Highlights (I understand their just highlights) he seemed to throw much more accurate deep and rarely under threw people at Georgia.

We will never know for sure and maybe it’s been discussed here before and I missed it but I think that elbow injury caused him to lose some arm strength.

The answer is yes. His injury has had a much more significant impact on his down field throws.

The team isn't going to come out and say that.

I was asking similar questions in other threads about my concerns with his arm strength and his constant under throwing of receivers.

I haven’t looked too deep into this but a 247 article from earlier in the year through 5 games, I believe, was the below:

If anybody want to argue this point go back and watch some of his film from Georgia.

And I’m not saying he didn’t have “enough” arm strength. Simply saying he lost some after the injury.

But this can be design of the play. However when he did throw deep he under threw quite a few passes. I believe he under threw JoJo a few times this season.

His arm is dead. And I don't mean that literally, like he's incapable of throwing a football. Let's be adults here. But much of the juice is gone. I still think he's a really good college QB and I think he's going to play in the NFL. He's going to get paid to play the position professionally, there's no doubt about it. But, right now, he doesn't have the arm talent of the upper echelon guys. Beck is VERY accurate in the short and intermediate game, though. He actually threw a couple balls last night uncharacteristically inaccurate, but most of the time he's deadly. But it's plenty obvious the ball has far less zip on it than it did pre-injury.

Can he gain that back? No idea. But his arm is definitely lacking compared to what it was. Still a fine college player though and had a great year for us. I will forever respect him for how he played against Ohio State. That was one of the most professional and clinical games I've ever seen against a truly elite defense, and the way he put his shoulder down on that 3rd and 11 showed me all I needed to know about him as a man.

I hope he can continue to strengthen that arm because he's got everything else you need to be at least a long-tenured backup in the league and make generational money.

I think he can get a little of it back with more time to strengthen it. It’s only been a little over a year since the injury.

Agreed!

I just didn’t expect to see the lack of arm strength through out the entire season. I could understand the first half of the season as he got his arm back into shape.

What I notice that he started doing and what seemed to be pre-determined passes (likely true) is because of that lack of arm strength so he would try to get the ball out earlier to the receiver in the hopes of it finding its target on time but many times, it didn’t matter. It was under thrown.

The first real worrying sign for me was the Cormani interception vs the gators. Had the guy open and you just see Cormani make up ground on the ball and basically chased it down.

iirc it took purdy awhile to get his arm back to full strength and his passes also looked extra floaty for awhile. i imagine beck can improve on it, but i do think he's a career backup type in the nfl. no shame in that though. he's shown that he can be a great locker room guy and is a highly intelligent football player. there's a place for that in a QB room.

Strongly agree. He’s a year out from major surgery, so his recovery & ability to play at a high level is impressive. Obviously has lost arm strength. Really needs some down time & rehab work, but probably can’t because of the pre-draft process.

I also think the lack of spring ball to develop better connections with the WR core hurt more than we know (including on INTs). Look at Mendoza with those back shoulder throws, that's just tons of practice reps with his WR to dial that in. Beck didnt have that type of connection, especially on deep balls (in addition to arm strength).

Mr. Caneingville and I discussed this many times this season. We watch almost every UGA game and it was very noticeable, right from the ND game. Hoped it would get better, but really it looked like Dawson just didn’t call those plays as often.

His accuracy wasn’t as clean either, and he impacted his confidence.

I would say Dawson made the right decision then to protect Carson and the offense from more turnovers.

Agree, the offense not being able to work together in Spring was a significant factor in it not being able to coalesce until the later part of the season. It’s why I’m concerned about Mensah potentially missing Spring.

Our downfield pass g was limited both by Beck’s arm AND our lack of downfield threats at WR.

And frankly, you didn’t see us completing a ton of deep throws even with Cam for that last reason. Miami must (and will) become better at WR

I think so. Seemed the 10-20 yard range was his sweet spot. When he tried to throw beyond that, he often ended up throwing behind the receivers. When he threw really deep balls, he also ended up overthrowing a good many of them to overcompensate.

He’s not someone you can trust with the game on the line. He gave it all he’s got, but it just wasn’t enough. I don’t know if the pressure just gets to him at the end of the game or what. We can and will upgrade.
