DBC’s source on Blake James

In most high-level positions, experience counts. Knowing about something is not the same as having experience in successfully leading and managing.

There’s no good rationale that I can think of to use exCanes versus people that have a proven track record in those particular jobs. Businesss don’t operate that way, and neither should our athletic department.

I can see someone making the argument for having as an athletic director, someone who’s had relevant experience, and then maybe, and I just mean maybe, having someone else as Director football operations such as Alonzo.

In my opinion the scenario you mentioned is just plain silly. And I’m not saying this to insult you, I’m just saying it doesn’t make sense from a business standpoint.

If you can give me one example of where this has been done successfully in the college football world, I’m more than willing to listen.

That's always been our problem.

College football is a business - a big money - business.

Invest in your business - grow your business - get top leadership for your business.

More investment - greater expansion - more revenue.

You don't have to apologize. I know we are going to disagree. I am just focusing on your argument against what I have said based on it's own merit. I don't think it is a good one. We can just agree to disagree on that.

I don't know who the potential candidates are (if any) so could not begin to compare their qualifications. Certainly, successful prior AD experience would be ideal. I just don't think it is absolutely necessary given other variables I mentioned. But to simply rule out, or call silly, a possible scenario that I brought up needs a little more than just ridicule. Any idiot could do that as well.
The best argument I can give you is that lack of experience is sufficient to eliminate a candidate. That’s not a silly argument, that’s a real world argument.

You’re talking about a high-level job and hiring people without the actual relevant experience. I just don’t buy that.

We just disagree on the relevant experience. Managerial experience and organizational skills translate in my opinion. It's no different in Sports than other areas. Both these guys are still involved in sports (one in NFL other through media) so that is a consideration as well.
