Once again, the Canes played their hearts out against FSU, but came up short. At the end of the year, it will only be another L. Playing their hearts out is not enough. If anything, their effort and obvious dejection at the end of the game make me dislike Golden and his sidekick more than ever. These young men came to UM with pride and thoughts of accomplishment. Instead, they are left exhausted in defeat and needing to excel at the Combine to overcome collegiate mediocrity.
Anyone paying attention would have known that Cook was the key to FSU's game. A good coaching staff would have made his containment the #1 priority. He's a great RB and will shine in the NFL, but at least slow him down. What did Folden's staff come up with? Evidently nothing since Cook gained 200+ yards. Oh, by the way. Why isn't Cook in a Cane uniform in the first place?
Golden keeps losing games against ranked teams, and quite a few against unranked ones. There is always a reason for the loss. Maybe missed tackles or an unlucky ricochet of the ball or bad calls by the officials or an amazing performance by an opposing player. Good coaches ensure that these things either don't happen or don't matter. Unfortunately, these excuses for losing have been routine under Golden. Instead of victories, we receive promises that problems will be corrected.
When he was introduced as the new HC, Golden said that his goal was to return UM to the championship. I remember it as if it were yesterday. Miami=Championship according to Golden. Now, the goal is merely to win the ACC Coastal. Playing your heart out in a loss to FSU has replaced owning the state of Florida. The team has become an irrelevant laughing stock when it once was the team that football fans either loved or hated. Don't tell me it is the practice facilities, the alumni donations or the stadium. Recruiting the best hometown talent to a beautiful and prestigious campus, preparing the players to win, and implementing the best strategy are what make an elite program. Golden has long shown his failure in these qualities. What the devil is Flake and the BOT waiting for? A post-season victory in the Irrelevant Bowl? Please, get rid of this guy and his damned sidekick. I am willing to see a couple years of severe pain as long as a remedy is in sight. Spend the money, ditch the concern over appearances, and hire a HC that will make UM the "BAD" team it once was.
