Dawson

Don't think that's fair, we ran for over 200 yards missed 3 FGs and had several opportunities for big passing plays that were missed.

I do not share that opinion. Dawson wasted the entire first half with really foolish play calling. He left so many points on the field that it should be considered coaching malpractice on his part.

We were notably better than Texas A&M.

When you defense holds a team to THREE POINTS on the game and you only score 16 (I'll add in the two field goals that Davis should have made) in a game where you had a 50+ yard punt return and a big interception return, that's a failure of the offense. Watching the game told us it was on dawson's foolish, gimmicky game plan.

Special teams execution would have added almost two scores to the final. That changes how you need to call things. Overall, no big issues at all.

I understand the A gap run thing has been beaten into the ground but we played a team that has been gouged between the tackles by a few teams already and we decide this is the game we’re not going to try it. The only offense we got in the first half was Fletcher running the ball but we only gave him 7 carries. I think we tried to get a little too cute with the wide receiver screens and short stuff outside the hashes that A&M was sitting on. Teams are going to try to take things away from us so when they overcompensate in one area, we need to attack the other areas. Most of the year, teams have been loading up against the inside runs and we started making them pay by attacking the perimeter. A&M was hellbent on defending the perimeter and we were able to attack them inside.

That was an 11-1 team that was one of the best in the nation and getting you off the field on 3rd down. We did a good job of staying mostly on schedule (disciplined football only 4 penalties...half of our average), but we were in rough 3rd and ehhh situations all game and their defense rose to the occasion most of the game.

But when you average 340lbs on the OL, tired makes cowards of us all and by the 4th Quarter, those holes got wide for Fletcher and Malachi had to go out there and right a wrong on a very gassed defense.

Maybe it didn't look like that was the plan...but that was the plan.

These guys are weird AF.. now they gonna say the a gap runs is what works.. no one has issues if something is working.. these guys just don't know how to adjust in game..

FIRST FLETCHER carry in the game chat I was like burn the game plan and run Fletcher down their throat.. they not ready..

EVERY first half touch when Fletcher broke a big gain, they immediately tried to do some malichi ****.. even after halftime in traditional drop back NOT on 3rd down beck had success, we immediately stop and try to do some trick plays.. this was not the game for that and they did not see it at all.. every announcer at halftime was like feed Fletcher more..

I usually like Dawson, this was his worst called game since he been here.. it's like he thought the heisman award was still available and was **** bent on running trick plays to win it for Malachi instead of feeling what works..

Now they will try to throw shade at fans who said try something else than run up middle while they caught 2 losses in middle of season.. it's like there is no nuance wit these guys
Dawson’s biggest issue imo is his “feel” for playcalling. His scheme and play calls in and of themselves are solid. But its when to call them and/or going back to the well too many times.

But I do give him credit in the 4th qtr by giving Fletcher the rock and letting him cook.

I think a few tweaks back to something similar against Pitt would go a long way to giving us opportunities against Osu.

I think Dawson got too addicted to scheming against sub .500 ACC defenses.

He completely out-thought himself today. As bad of a game plan as I think Ive ever seen from a playoff team.
That gameplan was absolutely baffling..

EVERY drive we get something going with fletcher then he wants to do something to Malachi, it was too forced.. like we couldnt just go with what was working, then when its 3rd and long, then give it to Beck against the best 3rd and long defense in last 10 years.. like wt absolute ****kkkkkk......

Nothing seems cohesive.. everything seemed forced.. Like we were forcing Malachi and never got Beck or Fletcher in a flow of game.. It was insane..

My brother(UGA fan), messaged me after the last missed kick saying we should be up 24-0.

I’ll give Dawson credit for the opening drive and moving away from force feeding Toney so unnaturally in the second half. But he’s gotta be better for 60 minutes. Toney should’ve a decoy from the get go. As soon as we started leaning more towards the run Toney had the catch, a more natural way of getting him the ball and the TD. Not hyperbole to extrapolate over the entire game and him having success.

What bothers me is, we were gashing them up the middle from the jump. Logically speaking you keep leaning on that and eventually the PA game opens up. And just refusing to run inside the TAMU 30.

It’s why the a gap wasn’t working mid season, because we were forcing it to the point it was predictable.
Today, we were forcing things to Mali to the point that TAMU that it became predictable.

Both of those things are good (A gap runs and finding ways to get the ball to Mali). Just need better balance and feel of when to call them.

Our two best drives and coincidentally, the two we got points on we got those two into the flow of the game. I would’ve loved to see more throws away from a screen to Toney. Quick slant to Daniels or Marion. Just something that should be 1v1 with the other 10 sets of eyes on Toney.

But like it should’ve been expected Toney was going to the focal point of their defense. I’m no offensive savant or anything. But I’m really surprised we didn’t try a fake quick pass to Toney and slip Daniels or Moore out behind it. Run against the jet sweep.

Toney tripped himself on his PR so he didn’t get 6 and 3 missed FGs is not normal. Just add one of those FGs to the Toney TD. Score would have been 20-3 even with Dawsons play calling. And as long as Miami didn’t turn the ball over and flipped the field, defense would take care of the rest. Not happy with Dawsons play calling but Miami had a lot of bad luck.

Way too much reliance on Toney today. We have too many playmakers to be doing that nonsense.

Coming out of halftime, we had a couple throws with Beck on early down, where they dont bring out blitz package and normal drop back pass for Beck.. I wonder how many of those situations we put Beck in like that.. Got great results and it felt like we never did it again the rest of half.. Frustrating gameplan..

He came in with a lot of creativity on offense. I think people aren't giving TAMU enough credit for playing extremely good, disciplined ball on the trick plays we threw at them. We begged for creativity all year long against a team like SMU, when the run was just not working. He gave it to us in the 4 games following and it was successful, but it just aint work against TAMU.
What’s that have to do with running gimmicks all game when he was running down there throat . Dawson is the weak link of this team . Some games he runs off trackle and throw vertical others it’s laterals , run a gap and gimmicks

I had thought before the game that we needed to use Toney a bit more as a decoy. We got the W.
Dawson is figuring it out, just needs to click sooner in game.

The guy didn’t touch Toney. You can see Toney’s foot hit his other leg and that’s why he fell.
