Dawson

Va Tech has a serious money issue facing them with this new hire.

Shane Beamer makes 2x the salary that Pry made. any new hire is going to want guarantee of NIL funds that far surpass what they currently allocate, even with Rev sharing. Supposedly they want a candidate with experience as a HC and with NIL experience.

Apparently the UCLA coach only made as much as some OCs across the country. That's an even worse situation....

Not sure which one is more likely to turn it around. You’d think Frenk learned on the job to know what it takes to play big boy sports but who knows. Im sure ucla has plenty of big time $$$ boosters that love football. Get the right AD and coach in place and they can turn it around in a few years. Lots of parallels bw ucla and miau.

i dunno.. if he gets ANY P4 head coaching opportunity, I think he has to take it.. has to strike while the iron is hot..

I guess if he feels extremely confident in his QB for next year, then I could see him taking another year and proving he can develop a QB (whether that's Nickel or Emory or whoever)... but getting back to back developed QBs like Cam Ward and Carson Beck isn't really sustainable...

Does he want to be a head coach? Not everyone wants to be the boss

Just my 2 cents I think these coaches should start to consider cultural and regional fits as opposed to just jumping at a job because it’s a P4 opportunity or a cool name. Dawson strikes me as a classic big 12 guy. SMU if lashlee leaves, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, Houston Those type of programs if they were to open up. If I’m him I’m not even considering a school like VT. That’s a classic scrappy, complimentary football type program. The guy is a play caller, I can almost guarantee that won’t be his type of ball if he becomes a HC lol

While we are speculating Dawson taking a HC job if our wildest dreams come true this year, do we have anyone on staff who can keep the offense humming along for next season?

I don't see any of the position coaches as that guy; do we have any upcoming coaches in the analyst room?

Are you saying Kelly shouldn’t have taken the LSU job? Hahaha

Truly believe we should make Dawson the highest paid offensive coordinator after the year!

That had nothing to do wit Dawson lol.. pay that man his money..

1. We did go into a shell a few times last year even when up. We didn’t again vs ND.
2. I was also referring to this yr. If we have an heisman candidate but don’t make the CFP, I don’t give two *****.

I just dont see Dawson as a head coach at the power 4 level. Maybe at a school like Baylor if Aranda gets the axe but Dawson doesn't strike me as a guy who would be good at all that comes with being a head coach at the power 4 level these days. I think we might lose him to the NFL to be a OC before another school alot like Todd Monken in that way

Thinking too small, IMO. If we make the playoffs with another high octane offense and R1 QB, why would Dawson leave for a B- or C-level program in utter disrepair like Va Tech. All he has to do is wait and a top program will come knocking with serious compensation and serious turnaround budget. He's the kind of guy that only succeeds as head coach with recruiting and administrative infrastructure surrounding him. Would do well at a Texas or Georgia type. Would struggle at a Va Tech type.

When he becomes a HC I seriously hope it's not for a hated rival. Now if he took UCLA job then I could root for their success
Hopefully we landed a dude that doesn't want to bounce around and keep moving his family for a HC gig. Dawson needs to be our Venerables (sp?), an almost lifer lol
