Dawson is what prevented us from a title. We probably need a new OC

The offense is the only reason why we beat Ole Miss and had a shot at the end against Indiana. Heatherman disappeared when we needed him the most. But he’s untouchable, so “fire Dawson”.
Penalties extending drives and miscommunication got us not Heatherman.

Heatherman coached scared. There was no reason for us to be respecting Indiana WRs like that. And why not bracket the guy they was throwing all those back shoulders to and let them have to throw to someone else like teams do to Toney.

If we are going to keep him as OC, we really need to make sure we land top end talent at Tight end, and the receiver position. He is not terrible but he is not going to consistently out scheme you
Dawson doesn’t coach STeams...they lost the game.

The OL got their *** kicked in the first half.

There is not a lot you can do as an OC when that’s happening.

And to top it off, your WRs can’t get separation.

2nd half, we opened it up a little but only because our OL stepped it up.

Dawson made some puzzling decisions for sure in that first half, but there is no substitute for the OL getting stomped.

You cant be predictable anymore. There is too much parity.

When you are preddictable, the defense knows whats coming at cheats. OL cant block. Wr cant seperate. Team looks bad.

As soon as he mixed it up, we rolled. I really like Dawson. He just ist good enough for where we are.

Dawson wasn’t perfect tonight. But they adjusted after HT. If we are going to blame Dawson for the first half. Hetherman needs some blame for the second half, mainly the fourth quarter.

We can sit here and point fingers and blame this play or that play. We had a chance to win. Against a team no one beat.

At some point we gotta take this for what it is. We lost a heartbreaking game we could’ve to a good team. This wasn’t Louisville or SMU where we looked bad for 60 minutes minus a few plays. We held our own.

Heatherman wasnt perfect, but his unit held the Heisman winning qb and a team that plays near perfect football to 20 points. While the offensee did nothing for an entire half.

The split personality of this board never ceases to amaze me. People ripping the staff during the two mid season losses then sucking them off when we make a run in the playoffs. Only to go back and crap all over the staff again after the Natty. It’s been the same **** staff all season.

Dawson deserves criticism, not because of his stubbornness with the A gap, but because he takes too long to adjust. We can’t give up an entire half and expect to win against quality opponent.

…and I am not a Dawson apologist, in fact I will not be upset when he finally lands some G5 gig, but teams lose games. Not individuals. Not one particular coach. This game was lost due to special teams AND our inability or unwillingness to adjust until the 2nd half.

Go ‘Canes!

Not fair.. Jacolby George was ALWAYS open. Other guys got open. Our best wideouts this season couldn’t get Seperation. But they were alone the guys who we could depend on. Gotta bite the bullet. The scheme always looks better with better talent for sure, he could have done a better job. Not his best first half but he had to reset.
Dawson is cheeks and I pray to God he’s leaving for another job

It was crystal clear from the first 2 drives the game planned to take away the A gap and short passes.

He took way too long to adjust

O’Conner was playing 10 yards off when they were in the **** red zone. I don’t know if that was the plan or he was just doin that because he couldn’t hang with his man. Either way it was hard to watch.

Exactly what UL did. They cant stop everything but not gonna let you beat us with this. I dont get why it took till halftime to make any adjustments. 10 points is alot in these type of games.

I think we're on the same wave length. I am pro-Dawson mostly but I want to see us improve. That means analyzing ourselves after every game and seeing what needs to improve and improving it. It's like a kid taking a course and learning throughout the semester. Last night was the final exam for us and Indiana. I suspect that they did a better job this year of learning from and correcting their mistakes. We need to get better with this going forward because it'll make this program a true serious NC contender maybe even favorite perenially.

So, we get to national title game after taking down TAMU, Ohio State & Ole Miss with a chance to win in closing minute or whatever & keyboard wizards want to fire coordinators. Unbelievable.

Something changed with the playcalling in the second half... more misdirection, more motion, etc. And we were able to move the ball much better than before.

The question is, why don't we play that way more? Is it Dawson, or a case of Mario, in desperation, taking the handcuffs off?

Dawson made excellent halftime adjustments. There are certainly better OCs but he’s not a weak link.

I will say it again - the formula for winning would have worked just as it did all season- run the ball, play defense, win the 4th quarter but the STs failures were too costly. 10 pt swing.

Dawson seemed to have a good grasp on Becks limitations and didn’t ask him to make nfl throws so he limited the turnovers by design. The final play all 3 WRs were open but Beck made the hardest throw requiring the most precision and arm strength.
