Dawson get in here…

I miss Carson Beck ngl at times it feels like that. He would take those check downs and keep the chains moving

It’s frustrating because Mensah has accuracy and timing at a level that Beck couldn’t match.

It just feels like Dawson is trying to make Mensah into Cam Ward… when that’s not who he is.

If you go back and look there was a lot of underneath players open. It seemed like Mensah was trying to press downfield more today rather than taking a lot of the underneath.

The thing that Mensah seems to do that is hurting the offense a not take the quick underneath pass. He had 3-5 tonight that would’ve extended the rice or the play, and he keeps his eyes downfield or outside the numbers, then feels the pocket collapse.
Heard this a lot with TVD and Ward too, is there something about the system process that makes players more likely to do this or that allows defenses to bait the progressions process into doing this?

Dawson is streaky as a play caller. One minute he’s great and next there’s streaks all in his underwear.
He really vibes with his QB but that's often a two way street.

Mensah was shakey therefore Dawson was, they ultimately settled each other enough to win and it's hard to really fault Dawson's results with his 3rd consecutive 1-year rental.

Mensah is more accurate but Beck knows how to keep them chains moving no matter what . I think Beck sees the field a bit better in that regard and obviously takes those checkdowns

I maybe a little “old school” but I truly believe Mensah needs to slow his role being on the net and autograph signing tours and focus more on football….Sometime the “big city lights” can be a little too much. Just me thinking out loud every time I see young man doing his net thing.😅

With a QB with Mensah’s accuracy, a line that can at least protect for 3 seconds, and Malachi Toney and the supporting cast of WRs… this offense should be unstoppable.

But asking the line to block for 5-7 seconds or Mensah to extend plays is just not a formula for success.

Also… tell me that 4th down Fletcher run into an 11 man front wasn’t straight up dumb.
Alot of it was on Mensah, check downs were there and he was scrambling instead of getting rid of the ball.

Anyone blaming dawson this game is blind. He saved us when mensah was trying his hardest to lose the game.

He had to do gimmicky trick plays for us to win. Same thing he had to do for beck last year, but this time we don’t have that oline.

At some point the quick game, which mensah was also missing guys in too, will not work. We have to create explosive plays and the QB and WRs haven’t done that since wake forest 2nd half. You can’t scheme or trick play your way out of those limitations with the oline/qb/wr rooms in the drop back pass game
Other than Toney throwing the 2 point. Those weren't trick plays, they were simply creative plays we been asking for, things that cause the opposition defense to think before shooting into the A gap to stop our run game. Mensah played pretty bad, holding the ball like Cam Ward. I dont blame Dawson for that. My issue with him is always the bland run game until we have our backs against the wall. Even the toss Mallory scored on, FSU was already shooting into the A gap. We have to help the OL and the RBs in the run game and not when we are desperate.

He doesn’t press the ball down the field enough. Not saying we need to bomb it out every play but we should challenge them deep every now and then to keep them honest.

I feel like he called a conservative game tonight

I’ve seen him call better games before, just tonight wasn’t his best work being honest

I think the point I’m trying to make is that it seems like Dawson is trying to make Mensah live in the intermediate stuff rather than building a rhythm passing O and then taking deep shots.

But I agree there were some single high looks from FSU tonight that we should have attacked down the field.

Im not sure why burners like Spafford and Jacobs dont get more situational shot plays.

I'm over the offensive play calling. And it takes a lot to say that when we have the #1 offense. It's #1 when it doesnt matter, and mid in conference games. And we got Shannon out here drawing plays on a ******* Etch a Sketch.

He’s too stubborn with trying to force an aspirational offensive identity… trying to run in between the tackles, rather than pivoting to an outside running game.
Did you see him having to check his calls thru Maribal? MArio wants to win a certain way.. Thats what get us in these type of games yearly, this time we actually won itl.. This was like SMU, goin for it on 4th down and jumbo run up middle
From what I see looks like Mario says when he wants to run and Mirabal suggest the type of run to Dawson. Since Mario and Mirabal are about Bully Ball we see more inside plays. When Dawson makes the call we see more creativity like stretches and end arounds.

Just let Dawson go and make Mirabal the OC or Mario can call plays as HC.

I agree mensah gets hit a few times he starts to go in a shell. I saw lofton open a few times and he never looked his way

I think Mirabal has more of an imput on the running game play selection than we think tbh

Is mirabal demanding more run up the gut he was in dawsons ear a lot… cause **** dude running outside zone to the edges was killing them yet we kept going back to the inside including that gotta have it drive with the ball in the 4th
