As we see it, the college game has changed tremendously and will continue with a major focus towards NIL for HS and portal. Coaching staff needs to be elite, paid extremely well. Never being a HC, what are Dawson’s chances to land a top P4 HC job? I say very little. Just pay the man top 3 OC money and he might stick around longer than most think…
 
My opinion but I dont think he’s necessarily a “top” playcaller but an adequate one especially for what mario wants our identity to be. We continue to get top QBs from the portal and get guys like lennear and wright, we won’t miss a beat.

The biggest difference IMO wasn’t the play calling but Mensah throwing to the players that were available. He even said so lost-game. He took what was given to him and thrieew to the use open receivers. Dink and dunk.

Good OC could be great if he was a better situational play caller. Gives a lot of autonomy to his QB which is probably why we'll never start a high school QB. Dawson and Cristobal do balance each other out which is also why it works.
 
I’m do not disagree about some of the run calls but he mixes it up and has a trick bag. Living through almost 40 years of Canes football, I like what I see overall. We have had some BAAADDDD oc choices in the past.
