The question I have is this.
Let's say for the sake of argument, that Dawson is running what Mario and Mirabal want him to and not what he wants to.
If he went rogue today and spread SMU out five wide and put up 49 and the results vindicated his approach, what could Mario and Mirabal really do?
At some point you are a grown man and you've got the headset and the playsheet. Call what you think will win and deal with Mario and Mirabal's bro-ball whining later. ****, take the coward route and tell them you're calling what they want but Beck keeps changing the plays. Whatever. But at some point, "My boss won't let me do what I want" sounds like a tired argument.
If Mario fires you even after a season where you win him a bunch of games calling your type of offense and scoring a bunch of points, that won't be an indictment on you. That will be an indictment on Mario and I feel like the coaching community will see that and you'll land on your feet with a good OC job somewhere.
And this is only if you believe that's what's happening here. If this *is* Dawson's offense then that's a whole other can of worms.
Either way, his product or the product he allows Mario/Mirabal to dictate to him is a poor reflection on him as much as it is on them.
