Dawson probably didn’t get the news that Mali would definitely be out until yesterday afternoon. That gives him last night, today and tomorrow to come up with adjustments. I’d say he’ll be burning the midnight oil coming up with a plan minus Mali.

Dawson has been doing this for a while and probably faced similar situations. I’m pretty confident he’ll come up with a game plan to attack Notre Lamé’s defense. Will certainly be interesting to see what he comes up with.

I really don't think there will be many adjustments given his presser this past week and what he said about his play calls.

Our passing game was dynamic in 2024 without a Mali. Yea we had Restrepo, but we have players on this team with similar or better physical traits. The key is if we have someone that can quickly recognize coverages and be on the same page with the QB. ND runs a lot of man, which would have bee bold with Mali, but I also feel like Dawson feasts on man coverage with his route combo's.

The real key is if we can run the ball.

This was definitely a game you would have seen Malicat. Especially in the red zone.

Regarding timing, you can guarantee Dawson was on the drawing board right after practice. **** depending on when the injury happened during practice, the contingency planning could have started then. Everyone keeps saying Spafford. But the concern for me is how much Mali does presnap. If you are not going to change the gameplan I don't think you can rely on a true freshman, first start, on the road, to replicate all that. That is why for my money its Upshaw in the slot and Wingo taking his spot.

I’m kinda of excited to see what Dawson comes up with. There may still be a few wrinkles in his bag of tricks.

While I think he may make some tweaks, it seems like to me that at this point there’s not going to be a drastic change in his bag of plays, just shifting personnel. The most important thing will be getting the right groupings out there for the specific play, in other words, putting the right players in the right spots for maximum effect.

As a quick example, does he put Barkate in the slot? I think these decisions are the ones that they need to implement immediately and get these players comfortable since they’re going to move them around.

Obviously, there are other questions, is it going to be more run heavy than he normally would, or come out slinging the ball or basically keep the same type of ratio that he’s had all season.

Mensah has forced it into Mail on some of his throws. Can't blame him because they almost always end up as catches. But this will hopefully get him to look around a little more and get others more involved. We do not lack the weapons.
