david lake with a great point about culture

Culture is dictated by the kind of people you’re recruiting. Hungry kids that are competitive , that love football and are about business. Anybody can recruit talented players but can you recruit talented players with tangibles that can’t be taught. Culture is normally a cliche used by coaches , but the great ones do legit create one.

Lastly everyone talks about tuff and fyzical but the violence is what stands out. This program is built on violence and making people pay the price for every play. You can by the end of games teams are beat up. That’s my favorite part of what’s been built.

I am of the opinion that many of the injuries on our roster is due to the violent manner in which our players are playing. There is always the cliche of a bunch of players "flying around" during practice and games, but our guys are living it.

It was only a punchline for ******* morons. Go talk to any football coach on the planet and slip into conversation, "I like this team, but they might be too tough and physical" and see how quickly you get backhanded across your teeth.

Dumbest **** ever. Clowning a football coach and team for wanting to be aggressive and physically dominant.

Yes.

And building towards it. You can't make a team "tough and physical" in one year, particularly when you inherit a roster where some of the guys live in Broward (not a joke).

But, yeah, we had plenty of so-called fans who turned that into a punchline instead of a goal for the team to attain over the course of the rebuilding process.

What makes it even more impressive is that in this day and age of NIL, future earnings, etc we have brought back the concept of the Miami brotherhood full circle.

There are a lot of teams that can pay and get elite talent. But we have seen a few already have some issues with spending on the wrong guys, not missing on just a few guys with regards to fit because every school has that, but missing on over half or maybe it’s more of the culture creating poor fits. But we have potential high round draft picks playing hurt, doing things that some superstars would never do, and when kids are scoring or making big plays you see genuine joy from teammates. It was one thing I drove home when coaching. Mudita - look it up if you never heard of it.

When your program achieves this concept as well as player led teams you become a team no one wants to play.

A lot of university football teams speak as if they know how to build "brotherhood" and "family".

Miami has been doing it for decades.

There's a reason why recruits have to attend practice before even committing. Mario & the staff want to know if a player is really about that life. Do they love football & the grind that comes with it in order to be great? That locker room is full of killers and if you're not 100% all in, all the time then you won't be around for very long.

I can name a very well-known recruit who is committed elsewhere right now...

...and Miami lost interest because he never liked talking football...it was all about his NIL and whatnot, never seemed to indicate a love for the game...
