Thats at best an A-. Its a solid to very good class on paper though. You want an A you need to land one of the elites.

That's why it's an A- and not an A?

Muhammed is a national top 100 player
Thompson is as a national top 200 player
Ayangbile is just outside the top 200

We full court pressed Johnson right after offering

I would agree one of our 2-3 biggest targets at any position

But:
Thompson
Johnson
Ayangbile

With either Muhammed or Evans as a swing man

Is an excellent DT class, no worse than A-

I heard Thompson wasn’t being prioritized because of how out of shape he was this spring?

That accurate?

I had heard that too

But DMoney had him back in The Bank and he recently (a day or two ago) got a Crystal Ball to UM
That’s what usually happens at this time of year when the staff doesn’t feel uber confident in their remaining top targets. Guys who we were “going in a different direction” from suddenly become takes and they usually commit shortly thereafter. Happened last season with Anthony Kennedy and the year before with Daylen Russell.

To be clear, I’m not criticizing it as I think it’s a wise strategy. Much better to lock in guys now who you may not be completely sold on but can work with their warts instead of desperately trying to fill the needs as you get closer to ESD. Plus the staff has shown to consistently overcome this and adequately fill the need in the fall.

As for Thompson, we weren’t the only staff to cool on him which may have woken him up.

This. Every year they take some projects early. There's very recent history to show if a commit we've accepted isn't developing as expected, they find another home. But they are never running around grabbing Golden specials the last week before signing day. That's why we're hitting now at a better rate than we have in decades.
