I completely get it. There are a lot of douchey lawyers out there.I’ve had plenty of opportunities to chat with lawyers through the years - sometimes on my dime, sometimes not. I’ve been to plenty of Alumni Association gatherings that always seem to be overloaded with lawyer representation (and financial planners - IYKYK). I find it almost fascinating to see them in action, specifically as they enter their echo chambers and speak in their jargon. The same can be said of doctors, engineers, construction dudes, etc. I mention all that as a backdrop for this - I think many folks lose sight of how they are received and perceived by those outside of their ecosystems. My original Homer Simpson comment was a (kinda?) funny way to bring this to light.
When I began my real career in sales, I always wondered why non-salespeople would make comments about how annoying salespeople are. Back then I was borderline offended by it. As my career unfolded and I hit management, upper management, then ownership, I CLEARLY saw why people called salespeople douche bags… because, well, they are! Obv not all. Obv there are times when sales folks really do bring valuable info to the party for buyers. Lastly, on a personal level, I’ve made significant efforts in real life to live a humble quiet life where I’m just a guy living his life. I don’t want to be famous. I don’t want to be well-known. I want to give back and help when I can and I want to do so quietly, without fanfare, and anonymously on occasion as well. That’s just me. Doesn’t make me right, wrong, better or worse. It’s just who I am. So yeah, I get slightly triggered when I see self-aggrandizing commentary. Usually I keep it to myself and keep on scrolling. This is CiS though and I have a reputation to uphold.![]()
I see what he's doing in a slightly different way though, because I think what these schools are doing is really scummy. I talked about it a lot back when Wisconsin first sued us. So I am glad that someone is out there educating the public about it, because most of these families have never seen an agreement like this before, or this kind of money before. And then you have schools like FSU trying to get them to sign away their right to even HAVE counsel in future negotiations?!? It's just all kinds of bull**** and these kids deserve to know that they have rights too.
