notsince1985 you and I all seem to be on the same wagon here thread killa. good stuff

Mullen is still "my guy", but he's got to get his D figured out if we hire him!

We play GT EVERY year!

Cool sample size bro.

Recounting Mississippi State's struggles against ranked opponents in Mullen era

agreed it's rather small sample size. Dont know if OP was being too serious with it, but hopefully this is better

pretty good sample size. 2-21 against ranked teams since 09...oh wait that was last yera. he's gone 0-4 since then. He's 2-25 against ranked teams (approximately not sure if ppl wanna count before season or after season rankings and don't wanna look up. point is clear though)

That's at least a valid discussion. I'm not concerned at all about a sample size of 3 games though.

Im not sold on Mullen... His success is a SEC illusion. People get so caught up in Miss St. being ranked #1 for a couple weeks and dont look at the games. He really hasnt accomplished anything up to this point besides a couple extra wins on the schedule every year.

I think we can all agree that Richt and Mullen coach/ed in the SEC. So either one of them, moving to the ACC, would be coaching against a softer schedule.

I think everyone could agree that UGA has and gets better recruits than MSU.

I can't imagine that the level of talent Richt would be coaching (at Miami) would be greatly different then he does now. Maybe a little better or at least access to better talent but not much of a difference. I think Mullen, getting access to the talent in Miami, would be a dramatic upgrade over his current talent now.

So IMO, you have 2 coaches potentially moving to a softer conference schedule.

I think 1 of the 2 coaches would greatly benefit from the upgrade in talent (Mullen). I also think Mullen, being 43, is worth the risk because Richt (55) may have hit his ceiling. I don't think much will change for Richt at Miami. I think we will get the same results or slightly better due to the ACC.

OK great he sucks we shouldn't hire him. We should just not hire any coach who has lost a game.

I looked up his wins against teams that finished rank and posted it in another thread:

Brash Mullen has beaten a total of THREE teams that finished the year ranked from 2009-2014:

2009 - #20 Ole Miss
2013 - #14 LSU
2014 - #22 Auburn

And as you said, it looks like he is going to bat .000 against ranked teams again this year.

By contrast, after bringing us back from debilitating sanctions, Butch's only loss in 2000 was the first game of the year to the Washington Huskies, which finished the season ranked #3 .

Look at Mullen's draft picks the last two years and expected draft picks this year. He's had a good amount of talent.

I posted the numbers a few days ago. My recollection is that counting the projected draft picks this year, he had 10 NFL guys on last year's roster. And that includes Dak Prescott, a big-body QB that can run, which fits Mullen's scheme perfectly.

Yet, Mullen lost to 3 of the 4 (end-of-the-year) ranked teams he played last year, and is going to lose to all of them this year.

People are just saying he's at a talent disadvantage without really looking at the facts.

He's ok, but he's not a top-level coach.

Again, I've watched a lot of MSU football over the last several years, and he repeatedly makes bone-headed calls that lead to punts and losses.

I'd also add that people constantly ***** on here how the rankings are always biased in favor of the SEC. If that's the case then shouldn't he have more wins against opponents that finished ranked? His out of conference schedule generally consists of guaranteed puff wins. His record is not what people are making it out to be.

Exactly!

And in his last 13 games at the U he beat #3 UCLA, #1 FSU, #7 Virginia Tech, #23 Georgia Tech and #7 Florida!

But none of the Butch haters want to hear the truth. They are all living in the land of fairies and unicorns.
