He was talking about wonderlick tests... and he said a great quarterback can't THINK his way through a play when he makes decisions, that he has to develop INSTINCT.

Marino's point was the game moves too fast. Thinking is too slow. You just have to see it and boom.

Brad Kaaya most definitely THINKS his way through each play. He's a bookish, cerebral guy. You can see it on him. You can see it on him when he hesitates during a play and ends up freezing and taking a sack or having to throw the ball away. It's why he can't make it past his first read in this new offense.

On the flip side, it's also why he rarely throws picks.

Unfortunately, that can't be fully corrected or coached. But what he can do is get as many mental reps as possible in this offense to speed up his decision making as much as can be done, and work hard on his footwork and mobility.

Also, even the most lead-footed quarterbacks have to be willing to take off and go every now and then if you have a mile of green grass in front of you. If he has to run and slide, then run and slide. But he seems unwilling to take off running at any cost.

On the other hand, I'd call Marino a lot of things, but a thinking man is not one of them.

Kaaya gets in his own way the same way a talented ball carrier will ***** himself over by trying to steamroll through instead of waiting for his blocks. He's tries to do too much to make the perfect pass and fails to realize that pocket passers don't live and die in the pocket, even Manning used his feet when he had to and the guy was held together by duct tape.

The O-line is awful and holds a lot of blame but kaaya certainly doesn't do them any favors with his lead feet.
