Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes are trending toward landing one of the top edge rushers available in the transfer portal.
Missouri transfer Damon Wilson, a former five-star recruit, is currently ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect in the portal, and all signs are pointing toward Coral Gables. After taking visits to LSU and Texas Tech, Wilson made his way to Miami this week — and according to an expert prediction, that visit went very well, with a pick coming in for the Hurricanes.
On the field, Wilson was one of the most productive pass rushers in the SEC this season. He finished with 47 total tackles, 9.0 sacks, and 9.5 tackles for loss, cementing himself as Missouri’s most consistent edge threat. He also added an interception, while his nine sacks ranked among the best in the conference.
Missouri finished the season 8–5, capping the year with a loss to Virginia in the TaxSlayer Bowl. Wilson’s best performance of the season came against Alabama, where he consistently lived in the backfield. In that game, he totaled three tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery.
Wilson originally signed with Georgia out of high school but transferred after seeing limited snaps. The move paid off at Missouri, where he broke out in a big way — and now Miami appears poised to be his next stop.
If the prediction holds, Cristobal and the Hurricanes would be adding an instant-impact edge rusher. Not a Rueben Bain, but it's close enough.
