Yea I’d say we did. But people overpay for every player now. It’s just the nature of the game. The difference is the teams that’ll probably throw a bag at this kid will be insane money. I’d overpay 99% of other teams to land him. But then you get into the weeds of bidding against TT or whoever and they offer $1M more than you are, at what point do they stop?

I’m not saying low ball the kid. But if we gave him say $2.5M and TT throws $4M as the first counter, then it just becomes ridiculous. Because then it’s clear they will just pay him whatever.

Still gotta pay a QB, returning players, other portal options, etc. I’m not saying low ball him. This is the quality of player that’ll become stupid money if it turns into a bidding war. No reason we can’t be the second highest offer and tout the coaching that built our DL to land this kid. If he’s just chasing the biggest bag move on.

Well, honestly, I do not think hes a 2.5 million dollar player.

But hes worth getting paid.

I think we need to make sure we pay our returning studs properly as well.

Thats what makes it so tough. Recruiting high school, recruiting the portal and then recruiting your own roster.

Our roster has some real *** dudes on it, and we need to make sure we retain those guys.
 
Is he a 3-down DE? I'd love someone who is solid playing the run and rushing the passer. If he's just a pass-rush specialist, I feel comfortable with Lightfoot / Pickett. I want a guy in the mold of Mesidor or Bain who can do both, like the Wendell Gregory kid.

There are certain positions in this game, that when a proven monster becomes available, you simply pay the asking price.

We have witnessed first hand what ELITE DE's can do for your defense. There is a reason why it is the 2nd highest paid position in the NFL.

PAY THIS DUDE WHATEVER THE **** HE WANTS. It's great if we feel good about our young core, none are sniffing this dude right now, or next year.

We have pocketed $23M thus far in the playoffs. Let's say truly netting around $17-$18M. This is on top of what our NIL budget was already. Pay this dude now!

For a college DE, that's tough.

I mean, I've said it myself, the cost for players is going up every year. Im not sure if we're at 2.5mil for a guy like that yet. At least not if we don't HAVE to have him.

Remember what we were able to to with #3? We still have Lightfoot and a possible Bain replica coming in with Charles.

I'm just saying we may not need to spend that for a guy in that position.
