It’s unregulated. All the pro league agents are capped on the compensation percentage for contracts (not so for endorsements). But college is the Wild West and agents are receiving 20% with some accepting as “little” as 15%.

Again, it maybe meaningless, but at least with the pro leagues the agents ahve to be registered and there is some background work done by the league. Not that that fact alone prevents players from being ripped off, but it does reduce the occurrences. College is completely unregulated. Which is fine if one accepts the Invisible Hand/Free market concepts of Adam Smith. But not so good if someone you know gets ripped off by some pop up agent with little more than a business card.

They don’t need agents; they need a competent lawyer. There are a few out there that are both and well-intentioned; but not many (especially in Florida). The guys I know out west who run California Power are a good example. Smart lawyers and they take a cut, but roll it all into a non-profit to fund travel, marketing, and other expenses for the 7-on-7 program that benefit the players.
