Not necessarily. How much income does Clemson gain from their success over the past five or six seasons? How has this success impacted the school’s overall bottom line? Fundraising and research grants? Clemson is a state school, yes? How much of Dabo’s salary is donated and how much is taxpayer money?
Canes fans expected and clamor is for the BOT and Admin to pay at a high level, to attract the best coaching talent. A strong, successful football program helps sell the school. This was one of our arguments and complaints.
Go back to the mid-late 80s. Would we have complained if Jimmy Johnson was given a 10-year extension and was the highest paid coach in CFB? I’m not sure what salaries were then, but let’s say $1M a season was a comparable salary for the time.
