Dabo: "This isn't middle school"

And you know Lawrence can beat those teams how?

**** we don't even know if He can get them to the NC.

Lotta football left to play, especially with a true frosh with scrub back-ups.

Duhbo f u cked up.

Clemson is getting to the ACC Champ game with a walk on playing QB. Lawrence gives you a chance in the playoffs. Bryant doesn't (proved it last year).

lol so Lawrence proved that he can beat Bama in the playoffs last year?? Yall really believe any team is worried about a true freshman QB in the playoffs?

They're not making it past Miami this year with Lawrence at QB.

Including the ACCCG & CFP, they potentially have 11 games left to play...lotta season left with a true frosh with scrub back-ups. We'll see.

Yet ******** Duhbo has been trotting out Hunter "Rudy" Renfrow every year for the last 10 years.

All the 5* WRs they've recruited and they can't find anybody to replace that scrub?

That "scrub" caught the winning touchdown in the national championship game in 2017 against Alabama. He also caught 150 passes in his career at Clemson for 1745 yards and 15 TDs. (Compare that to Braxton Berrios - who no one here would call a scrub - and his career numbers: 100 passes caught, 1175 yards, 14 TDs).

Also, since Renfrow's years, Clemson also had the following WRs drafted: Deon McCain, Ray Ray McLoud, Mike Williams, and Charone Peake.

Do you enjoy being wrong?

I said Lawrence gives them a chance. They had no chance with Bryant (proof was last year). I think UGA was worried about Bama's FR in OT.

Let me ask you this since you think Braynt is so good. Would you want him here next year?

lol this isn't highschool and no he's not one of the best HS prospects to come out this decade... not even close.
Bryant was a 5 star recruit as well, Dabo **** the bed.. he shouldve handled it like Saban and waited until the QB play gave him no other choice but to go with the younger QB.

Clemson's offense is nothing but 1 or 2 read passes like it's always been since Dabo's been the HC. As soon as Lawrence get his *** popped there will be no one else to turn to. Dabo needed Bryant to beat Texas A&M... Lawrence wasn't making **** happen that game, you think these scrub teams they've played since means anything in terms of how Lawrence is going to look the rest of the year??.. we'll see how "one of the best prospects in a decade" holds up in the end.

Dude, the crap you're saying is easily checkable, yet you continue to spout off about things demonstrably wrong.

Bryant wasn't a five star, and no service had him rated as a national Top 250 prospect. Trevor Lawrence was the #1 recruit in the nation last year on all major recruiting sites, and various people called him a "once in a decade" player. Wanna know how I know this?

LMGTFY

Just one snippet pulled from that search: Clemson benches Kelly Bryant for Trevor Lawrence. Why that's important - FootballScoop

"For the record, this is the right decision from a football perspective. Both players have thrown a similar number of passes to date this year, but Lawrence’s efficiency rating is 45 points higher. Bryant is a good college quarterback; Lawrence is a generational talent."

Also, it's clear you don't watch the games, because the team has been decidedly better when Trevor Lawrence plays. Wanna know how I know this?

Bryant: 35 of 53, 66% completion rate, 450 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT.
Lawrence: 39 of 61, 64% completion rate, 600 yards, 9 TDs, 2 INT. (To help you with the math, that's 150 more yards and 7 more TDs on an additional 8 passes).

Not very close. But then you take a look at the advanced stats, and it becomes an even easier decision: Trevor Lawrence is the right QB for Clemson | NFL Draft news and analysis | Pro Football Focus

"Let’s start with the overall play where Lawrence has out-graded the more experienced Bryant in key areas. Starting with an 85.6 passing grade for Lawrence compared to a 56.3 for Bryant, the freshman has simply outplayed Bryant in their competition. Bryant bridges the gap slightly due to his rushing ability, but it’s not enough to keep Lawrence off the field."

"On all throws at least 10 yards down the field, Lawrence is grading at 84.4 with a passer rating of 143.8 while Bryant has posted a 65.0 grade with a rating of 114.4. Lawrence’s arm strength and accuracy bring a different dimension to the Clemson offense, especially as they’re loaded with playmakers capable of winning at the catch point or creating after the catch."

There are also advanced stats showing that roughly 65% of Bryant's passes are completed within five yards of the line of scrimmage, and that that number drops precipitously when Lawrence is in the game.

Again: this is Division 1 football. Not everyone gets to play. Last year means nothing (just ask Jalen Hurts). You play the guy that gives you the best chance of winning on Saturday afternoon, and for Clemson, that's Trevor Lawrence.

And still over 60% passing…

Anyway, you’re jousting with the wrong windmill.
1. I believe Kelly Bryant did the right thing.
2. I believe Dabo Swinney did the right thing.
3. Bryant hasn’t done anything wrong ... he hasn’t lost any games ... he just hasn’t been good enough.
4. Dabo knew in the spring that Bryant could keep the job.
5. Bryant can be the right answer for a few power 5 schools, and a game changer for a few others.

Exactly. I would rather take the player who has a better upside and who is currently playing better.

Bama literally won the national championship game last season riding a true freshman QB.

no they rode Hurt all the way through the SECCG, 1st round of the CFB playoffs, and 1st half of the national championship game... like i said completely different scenario. Saban gave Hurt all the opportunity in the world until the very last game of the season.

LOL, now you're moving the goal posts. Your words indicated that no playoff team should be worried about a true freshman QB. And the national champion won the game last year -- with a true freshman QB.

You're also guilty of false equivalence. Your position is that Lawrence doesn't get them past Bama, and that therefore he should not be the starter. This requires us to assume that Bryant (1) would GET Clemson to the playoffs and (2) can beat Bama, even though it looks like an all-time great team this season and he failed in doing so last year.

That's not the question. The question is "does Lawrence give Clemson the best shot at winning games now through November?" Anything outside of that is extraneous, including whether or not Lawrence is the guy who can beat Bama.

I guess crying about completion percentages only matters at Miami.... 66% vs 61%???

Trevor Lawrence vs Texas aTm = 5/9 for 93 yards 1 TD - QBR 43.1

Lawrence doesnt give Clemson a better chance than they already had to win out their schedule... but judging by his performance against aTm i dont see how that gives anybody confidence he can beat any team in the CFB PLayoffs??... He's not beating Miami to make it that far with that kind of performance. And Dabo is going to have a lot of embarrassing questions to answer when that happens.

I like the move.

IMO It improves our chances against Clemson if we meet in the ACC title game

I'd rather play Clemson with Lawrence at QB as a pocket passer so we can let our front four loose on him.

NO QB , regardless of his passing skills, likes throwing under duress and hopely if our D is still healthy then we can apply maximum pressure

No, Berrios was recruited.

Also, let's take a pause to take a look at how stupid your argument is. Dabo Swinney -- a guy who won a national championship two seasons ago -- is dumb because he's starting Lawrence. And your support for this is that his roster selections should be questioned because he starts a "scrub" like Renfroe.

The guy with the national championship...is dumb...because he starts a guy who caught the game winning TD in a national championship game.

Oh, and Berrios is a better player than that guy because..."he was recruited."
