"Got the biggest challenge that we've had all year for sure in Miami. This is a really, really complete football team. Man, Manny [Diaz] has done a great job down there. They have dudes everywhere and that's pretty easy to see when you turn the film on."
"The. goods news is we are 3-0 and we haven't come near to playing our best football yet. That's on us as coaches to get us there.
"We are in a good spot health-wise and hopefully we can continue to have good success in doing what we need to do the rest of this week. Have two more tests Wednesday and Friday and hopefully we'll get results there and have everybody ready for the show on Saturday night.
"This will be a heck of a game. Will be a great matchup. This is by far the biggest challenge we'd had, and the biggest challenge they'd had. This is what it's all about. That's why they made it GameDay, two good teams going at it."
MIAMI ON OFFENSE
"Offensively, they're playing with a lot of confidence and they're fast. This quarterback is a special player. Running backs are physical. They got speed and length outside. They have two tight ends that are probably first-round type guys at the next level. Very experienced offensive line.
"They play incredibly fast, incredibly fast with their tempo. And they're balanced in what they do.
MIAMI ON DEFENSE
"Defensively they have a lot of special talent, starting up front. They have the AAC Player of the Year in Quincy Roche. That No. 15 (Jaelan Phillips) man, he is a long, physical, violent athlete coming off the edge.
"Got a bunch of guys that can run on the back end.
"No. 15 and No. 2 [Roche] are booth really, really good. Jackson [Carman] and Jordan [McFadden], they better be ready. That's going to be a four-quarter battle. It's going to be fun to watch. If I was just sitting up in the stands, I'd put my eyes on the offensive line and defensive line. That's probably going to be where the game is won and lost."
MIAMI OC RHETT LASHLEE
"He's evolved some after going to Connecticut and SMU, but he's still his same core philosophy. He's going to play really, really fast and through that try to create some disruption in your ability to line up, be disciplined in getting your eyes on the right things, and they try to crate some explosives through that.
"He's very committed to the run, there's no question about that. But they are balanced. They take their shots. They are going to have some gadgetry, if you will, that I'm sure he's gotten over the years from his time at Auburn with Gus [Malzahn]."
MIAMI RUN GAME AND OFFENSIVE LINE COMPARED TO LAST YEAR
"I watched zero of Miami's '19 offense (on film). Watched this year and schematically some stuff [Lashlee] did at SMU. That's really it. They got a transfer in there at tackle. I think we have a good feel for them after three games this year. I guarantee Brent watched every bit of that, you can guarantee that.
"(Cam'Ron Harris) is physical. He's averaging a bunch of yards. Just like the quarterback, he's averaging five yards after contact. That's a pretty telling statistic right there. He's a very good zone runner, great feel, instincts. He gets behind his pads, finds the creases, and he's good cut-back player when he needs to be. He's had some explosive plays.
"They're been very balanced in what they do. But honestly it all starts right there in the run game for them."
D'ERIQ KING
"Looking at their quarterback, he's a great quarterback. He can do it all. There's really nothing he can't do. He can make all the throws and when he runs it, he's a running back. He's got that mindset of a running back too. He's averaging 5.4 yards after contact, so this a very physical player. He's averaging 15 yards a scramble. Has made some huge plays in the passing game.
"When he takes off, he's a running back and that's the mindset he has and you better have your big-boy pads on. He wants to throw it first. He can throw it on the run, push it down the field, there's really nothing he can't do. He's a dangerous player."
MIAMI DEFENSIVE FRONT
"That's where it starts. They want those guys to be disruptive. And they are, they are very disruptive. I mean, they're not sit-and-read guys. They're off-the-ball, in-your-grits-quick guys. They are not sitting around waiting on anything. They are trying to wreak havoc. They are fast and physical at the line of scrimmage.
"But they bring a fair amount of pressure as well, whether it be a corner blitz, plugging a 'backer, zone pressures or bringing more that you can block— they mix it up. We've only got what we've got so far on tape, but they are definitely not afraid to bring pressure and they've shown that."
RUN GAME VS. VIRGINIA
"We had some third-and-longs, but going back and looking at it, we actually did a lot of good things on first down. It's just the way the nature of the game was. I mean, they were always triggering somebody, always an an extra hat, always a corner, always a safety, and they're giving you a lot of space. Travis had 114 yards receiving, so we put the ball in space [instead]. But we've got to cut out some of the missed opportunities that got us off-schedule a few times. But 53 percent on third down is going to win you a lot of games.
"People talk about stats and rushing... we could be leading the country in every statistical category after three games if that's what my objective was. If I wanted to be leading the nation, I could. But that's not our objective around here. Our objective is to develop our team."
CLEMSON SPECIAL TEAMS
"After three games, that's been the most pleasing part. If you ask me one area of our team I'm most excited about it's special teams. After three games, we've made a difference in the game. And that's part of our plan to win, is to create field position, score points. Really proud of the consistency there.
"Will Spiers has been really good for us. Our coverage has been good. B.T. Potter has been excellent.
"The biggest positive has been our return game. We've had some explosives in the return game. And the improvement of Potter. Those are the two areas in special teams where we were the most inconsistent last year. Through three games, we've been good there. Hopefully that will continue."
HURRICANE DELTA
"I haven't looked at it one second. What good would that do me? I could care less. We've played in hurricanes before. We are playing the Hurricanes this week. We got double hurricanes this week. But honestly I haven't looked.
"Whatever the good Lord gives us. As long as it's the same for both teams, it doesn't matter."
TOP-10 MATCHUP AS A REMINDER THE ACC HAS GOOD TEAMS
"I ain't worried about none of that. I really don't care what other people think. We play good people every year. I mean, we've been in four national championship games, five playoffs, and we've had to earn our way there. You're either good enough or you're not to win those games. And the main reason we've won those games is because of what we saw along the way."
"People make up their own narratives that are often not reality. I worry about my team. And this is a really good team that we are getting ready to play."
