Dabo Swinney and Clemson rebuild

I decided to post this for some perspective. Dabo got the interim job at clemson in the 2008 season after Tommy Bowden resigned after 6 games. He went 3-3 (1-2 ACC). He was only known at this time as a strong recruiter but a guy who lacked HC experience. They made him the head coach for the 2009 season, and here it how its gone:

2009- 9-5 (6-2 ACC)
2010- 6-6 (4-4 ACC)
2011- 10-3 ACC Championship. Lost in orange bowl 70-33 to west virginia
2012- 11-2 beat LSU in chick fil a bowl
2013- Another 11 win season beat ohio state in orange bowl

I choose to highlight the early part of his tenure because we all know what ended up happening. Heres a guy who up until that time was a WR coach and great recruiter. So I say to us canes fans, we are ahead of schedule, the savages are coming, the championships are coming.

I was thinking the same thing after the game, it will take more time and a infusion of talent before we will be able to complete with the elite teams. Good thing we are starting this year with an elite recruiting class.

I don't think that's the point of this at all, just that the team is actually ahead of schedule. It's not an excuse, but it takes time to recruit the players needed to win consistently. Kaaya left, leaving no good options at QB. They lost the starting running back, the best WR, and their only experienced TE. This was done with smoke and mirrors this year. I think somebody posted that Miami has 68 players available now, with the scholarship losses and injuries. It's going to take some time to get the depth built to a decent level. Miami has 25 4-5 star kids, Oklahoma has 37, Clemson has 40, Georgia has 54, Alabama has 69. I'd be more ****ed at Ohio State, who missed the playoffs with 63 4-5 star kids.

I think we CAN do what Dabo did, but it will take the type of relentless approach to staff and recruit building that Dabo has used at Clemson. He basically duplicated what Saban did at Alabama. That’s what we are looking at, and that is the mountain we have to climb from now on to get into the Playoffs.

What schedule? There is no connection to us and them.

You might as well compare us to Alabama or Washington State.

First thing they need is a reliable QB, period. Oklahoma is not the same team without Mayfield. As dominant as they are, Clemson lost to Syracuse without Bryant. We all know what Winston meant to FSU. Without him, Jimbo has been fairly mediocre, for the talent he's had.

A good team also does not have to play as many true freshmen as Miami has had to the last couple of years. It's not just about making freshman mistakes either. They're freshmen, and they don't hold up physically like older kids.

There's no specific schedule, but getting the depth needed to withstand the injuries takes time. Miami's issues were compounded by the scholarship reductions.

You recruit consistent top 10 classes and develop them and you will be considered among the elite, and from what I've seen this staff has the ability to develop which is what the other staffs lacked tremendously. This was simply just an example of what happens when you recruit at an elite level by year 3 and 4 great gains will be made.

No matter the depth of a positive comment rest assured that the haters will infect the thread/post with negativity and doom. They are only happy when complaining and ridiculing Miami's players and coaches. Yet, they claim they are fans and of course should you have a differing view (positive) then you are labeled with a variety of childish/vulgar names.

When the Canes lost to Pittsburgh that clan was crowing about how right they've been and went on to point out the "fools" that have had even the slightest of positive comments regarding the Canes.

When reading the avalanche of negativity it cannot be lost on those readers who have reasonable opinions that the haters are gleeful when the Canes hit a rough spot.

Reading the game day discussion thread is nothing short of an out of body experience due to the almost non-stop hate being shoveled on that thread as so much manure.

Ok name me a team who has had elite success in two years or less? And of the teams who consistently have top 15 classes and suck, the only two I can think of are tenn and florida and their coaches got fired for that reason.

Also Brent Venables. Dabo has outstanding assistants.

I do however disagree slight with the talent issue. That Clemson team has more talent than Miami at this time. It's close, but I'd give them the edge. This is going to change after the next cycle however.

I also think Richt/Manny can compete with the Clemson coaches.

The biggest thing about Clemson under Dabo: The Quarterback.

They have recruited and developed that position better than anyone else in the country and it's the single biggest reason for their turn around. As we've seen this season, you're only going to get so far without a competent QB.

Sorry, you lost me there. You think Miami has more overall talent than Clemson right now? I just don't see it. Plus, Miami is definitely not as deep as Clemson just yet. Are they 35 points better than Miami as far as talent and depth are concerned? No, but to say Miami is more talented is just off base IMO.

With all due respect, I'm not sure what was so cutting-edge about the Clemson offense I saw a couple nights ago. I saw a lot of bubble screens, where their QB hit the guy in stride and their receivers blocked well. I also saw a slot receiver sitting down in zone creases for easy pitch-and-catch.

Executed very well by them, no doubt, but I don't know that I'd call what they do some kind of revolutionary offensive football.
