If he wants Reed gone, he's gone.
 
I, like all of you, was completely underwhelmed with Manny's success. I will not bash him because I think he gave his all. He made changes when he thought necessary, which the previous 3 coaches wouldn't do. I will say, outside of OL, CB, and LB the rest of the team is in better shape than when he took over. Best of luck Manny. Now, welcome Mario. LFG!!!!

Huff just doesn’t seem to grasp the game mentally but what do I know. We need someone to step up at Lb or hit the portal

I have a hard time thinking he's that far behind coming from STA.

I think the Diaz, Baker, Patke methodology of coaching LBers has failed everyone except Shaq and Pinckney in the 6 years we had those guys coaching LB

totally agree. Not his fault blake gave him Miami as the his first HC gig. He needed experience at a smaller program first

Drawing clemson last year when we werent' supposed to play them, kings injury, and his defensive play calling falling off dramatically this year compared to his DC stint sealed his fate

I think he can be a good coach at a g5 program for a few years and then at a low tier p5 program

I just want someone with knowledge to explain if manny taught players to take on blocks verse trying to tackle. I can’t count how many times I saw guys intentionally take on a block when they had a chance to instead just make the tackle. Gurvan hall was the worst about that. They had to have been coached that way, right?

I think not being able to get rid of a guy like Reed is a legit concern. It's kind of off the topic of this thread, but my issues with Reed specifically are: it's totally not clear exactly what kind of role he wants with the team. Does he want to be a coach? An analyst? A guy who chills around the program and watches film with the kids? It's Ed Reed, so I have no doubt he has incredible amounts of wisdom and technical knowledge to impart to young guys. But is he really motivated to do so given that he has little, if any actual coaching experience? If you put someone like that in an on field position, and it works, then you're a genius. If it for some reason goes bad, how many enemies are you going to make - among the fans, the players, the player alumni, the BOT - if you feel like you have to let him go? I mean imagine being the guy who has to fire NCAA and NFL hall of famer Ed ******* Reed. Anyone who's not Bill Belichick or Nick Saban is gonna second guess and be second guessed on that decision for ever.

This isn't an issue necessarily confined to Reed either, though his credentials as a player and football mind are completely unassailable; I worry about it with any universally beloved UM player alum we think about bringing on.

Ya the Gurvan play obviously stuck out more than Jennings ever did... but that's something you see Jennings do over and over on film. Run into a block trying to blow it up intentionally and let someone else make the tackle.

I thought Jennings just sucked but when I saw the Gurvan play I immediately started asking around to see what was going on and if they were teaching something that made them do it.

I saw it a lot for years so I’m assuming it’s taught but I just don’t understand why. I get setting the edge etc…. But it seemed our defensive guys would seek out blockers instead of the tackle haha

Well he clearly did not teach how to tackle.
