This is a good post. I think that people have grossly underestimated how broken this program was when Mario inherited it. Here are some key #'s on the program since 2006, which I consider as the origin point of its mediocrity.

It's glaring to see how the program completely collapsed. Night and day difference. Mario inherited arguably the biggest P5 dumpster fire (not named Nebraska) in CFB.
I view the program of being on a five year plan.
- Year 1: 6-8 win season (absolute failure) + stack talent (success)
- Year 2: 7-8 win season + stack talent + bowl berth
- Year 3: 8-9 win season + stack talent + decent bowl berth
- Year 4: 9-10 win season + stack talent + compete for conference + fringe playoff contention
- Year 5: 10+ win season + stack talent + playoff contention
It takes a long time to clean up one of the biggest dumpster fires in college football. Not to mention we had almost two decades of broken culture, bad evals, and lack of investment (terrible facilities). All of that is changing, slowly. I do believe that we'll see some major improvements from last year's 5-7 catastrophe with this year's team. We show some signs of life and keep stacking talent and anything can happen.
